Hi,

I have some problems with Bitdefender for Unix (v7.90123 running on Debian 5). Every time I try to start a scan I get the folowing result:
CODE
root@dolphin:~# bdscan /tmp/
BitDefender Antivirus Scanner for Unices v7.90123 Linux-i586
Copyright (C) 1996-2009 BitDefender. All rights reserved.
This program is licensed for home or personal use only.
Usage in an office or production environment represents
a violation of the license terms

Infected file action: ignore
Suspected file action: ignore
Loading plugins, please wait
Plugins loaded.

Error: core initialization failed: (null)

The return code is 252.

I reinstalled the product and try to run the scan as different users, but the result is the same. Any hints?

Thanks,
Heinrich

Hi Heinrich,

Please forgive me for the late response.

Please run the command and provide us an update status of the issue.

cat /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/versions.dat.* |awk '/bdcore.so.linux/{print $3}'|while read bdcore_so;do touch /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/$bdcore_so;bdscan --update;ln -s /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/$bdcore_so /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/bdcore.so;done

Regards,

Andrei

Hi Andrei,

thanks for your reply. I tried the command. I got one error (/opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/bdcore.so already exists), but now it's working! Thank you!

Greetings from Germany,
Heinrich

Hi!

Sorry for re-opening this old topic...

The command line Andrei posted let bdscan start again - but dosen't fix the problem. Sometimes I still get this error message and bdscan won't start anymore.

My system is a Debian stable (6.0.3). Any ideas for fixing the problem forever?

Thanks,
Heinrich

Hello again Heinrich,

We cannot reproduce the errors in our testing environment , so follow the steps below and provide us an update status of the issue:

Please remove Bitdefender and reinstall again the application.
Use the following commands to uninstall:

# dpkg -r bitdefender-scanner-gui
# dpkg -r bitdefender-scanner
# rm -rf /opt/BitDefender-scanner

Download and install the latest available kit from the link below:
http://download.bitd...4x.i586.deb.run

and install with:

# sh BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.i586.deb.run

If you have any questions please contact us.
Regards,

Andrei

Hello Andrei,

thank you for your reply!

I am not realy sure, but my asumption is, that my system ran out of memory. I did some tweaks and since then didn't get the error again... I will monitor my system and give you an update, if the error occourse again.

Thank you!
Regards,
Heinrich
