  1. I had the same problem. This symbolic link goes to a non-existing file or directory. $ ll /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins/plugins lrwxrwxrwx. 1 bitdefender bitdefender 45 Sep 28 2015 /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins/plugins -> /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/plugins $ ls -l /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/plugins ls: cannot access '/opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/plugins': No such file or directory Based on my strace output (which matched yours), I had a hunch that it expected plugins to be the Plugins directory, so I changed the symbolic link. $ sudo ln --force --symbolic /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins/plugins $ ll /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins/plugins lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 45 Aug 2 12:23 /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins/plugins -> /opt/BitDefender-scanner/var/lib/scan/Plugins Then, it started working.
