After an update downloaded on October 30, 2008, updating is impossible, system will hang then gives me a IO timeout error.
Update status screen shows File: Plugins/emalware.c00, then stops, other files such as emalware.c03 and .c05 also cause hanging.
Cannot update system without receiving IO timeout error message, any help out there?

i have the same crappy problem since 5 days ago, but only with bdts2008 x64 on vista hp sp1x64 i say this as i have another pc, with bdts2008 x86 on xp sp2 that upates every hour without any problem, also i use bdis2008 x86 xps2 without any update problem, as the updates are the same then the server is not the problem, is the sp1 in vista and the sp3 in xp,that is the cause, a bit late but i think is significant, and why have bitdefender not made a announcement to say what is going on PUBLICLY ?? As 5 days without 1 update is not on,they have broken their terms of the contract,we all may as well uninstall bd and have a faster system back

We have the same problem here!
On our windows 2000 systems SP4 running BD 7.2 AND our windows vista ultimate 64 bit SP1 systems running BD internet security 2008.
No update possible for the last 3 days, keep getting MD5 check fails.
And there is more....
On our vista systems (64 bit ultimate sp1) the threat scanner stops a few times a day.
It seems that bitdefender is buggier than ever.
In 89 days our licenses will expire, and we will not get new bd licenses because we only want to pay for working software.
But the remaining 89 days we still want our updates from bd, we have paid for it.
I hope to get a solution for these problems soon, but reading this forum our hopes are very low.

Hi All,
I've being experiencing the same issues also... I'm using windows Vista Ultimate (32bit) with Service Pack 1, and after some persistence I have managed to resolve the matter in my instance. Here's how I did it...
After attempting several (n to the power of n+1) times to manually run the update I got fed up with it constantly hanging every time so I opened the advanced settings (right click on the bit defender icon in your system try and selected "open advanced settings") and checked when my updates were last successfully downloaded and applied (select the "update" button on the bottom left hand side of the bit defender window which opens). Then I checked what other applications I'd installed/updated (within add/remove programs) since the last good anti-virus update. As a precautionary measure I removed every application which was installed/updated since the last good update. After doing that I removed all Bit Defender definitions updates (again found within add/remove programs) and re-installed the Bit Defender application from scratch (I didn’t uninstall the application as re-installing it will do that for you and re-installing it will also retain all your primary settings such as product keys, user details). After I re-installed Bit Defender I re-ran the updates and I found that it hung again on emalware however after re-starting my computer and attempting a second time the update ran all the way through to the very end. I then re-installed the definitions update from the Bit Defender website and I’ve since attempted several manual updates all of which have being successful.
I’m not sure if it was just pure luck in my case or if the steps I took could be a universal work around but I hope it helps ye out in some way.
I hope I’ve being of some help, and will update should the issue re-occur. Until then, best of luck everyone with tackling your update problems.

Well, my updates still don't work!
I tried repair.
I tried re-install.
Still not possible to update.
But what's worse, still no email response from bd!
That really bugs me.
I pay good money for a number of licenses, and i get zero support from bd.
I now have a disfunctional piece of software and bd treats me like dirt.
Apparently this is the way bd treats its paying customers.
And thats way worse than a bug in the software, because software can't be 100% bug free.
But a company should always give support to its paying customers.
