Hello All,

I installed Bit Defender Antivirus Plus version 10.0 (now Build 247) about a year and a half ago and have had no problems until recently.
My computer is a Dell Dimension E510 with Windows XP SP3 and all updates.

Recently when I start a full antivirus scan from the BitDefender Program it begins the scan, but after a few minutes suddenly aborts and a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) message pops up saying the following:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to protect your computer
BAD_POOL_HEADER
STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x868F7000, 0X868F7308, 0x0A610000)
Dumping Physical memory to disk..."

After which my computer shuts down and must be manually restarted (Arghhh!).

I have tried to watch the files being scanned to see what folder or file is triggering the BSOD, but the files fly by on the screen fairly quickly. It appears to happen when scanning somewhere within the following folder:

c:\Documents and Settings\Nathan\ (Nathan is not my real name--just shown as example for this explanation)

The strange thing is that if I click on "My Computer" from the Desktop then navigate to the Documents and Settings folder and do a scan by right-clicking the folder and selected the "BitDefender" scan from the context menu the scan completes perfectly without any problems or error messages!

I have run an online virus scan and it found no viruses. I have also run A-squared Trojan and Malware detection software and it only found some low-risk Internet cookies which I deleted. My computer is running fine and seems to be rock stable with no lock-ups, error messages, or crashes EXCEPT the stupid BSOD I get when running a virus scan from the BitDefender program.

I've completely uninstalled Bit Defender, then rebooted and reinstalled the program but continue to get the BSOD Stop error when running a virus scan.
I am NOT running more than one anti-virus or anti-spyware program--only BitDefender.

Can anyone please explain why this is happening and how to resolve it?

Well, after making some very careful observations during multiple virus scans and changing various options within the Bit Defender program I found out what seems to be triggering this!

It does not happen if I exclude the following folder in the scan path:
c:\Documents and Settings\Nathan\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\

The sub-folders contain my Outlook Express email messages (in .dbx files).
Also, the BSOD only occurs if and when I have the advanced options set to "Open email archives".

Now, can anyone tell me why this occurs? Perhaps my email archive files are corrupt?
