Bitdefender Anti Virus 2008
Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 3

Hi,

Today, after couple of weeks I checked my Anti Virus and all of sudden realized that Real-time protection was non-existent! "Fix-all Issues" button did not fix anything. I browsed to Settings, Anti Virus category, and to the Shield sub-category to manually enable real-time protection. However, the option was greyed out so I could not enable it. Message was "Real-time protection is unavailable".

Other problems:
- BD does not update
- BD does not preform any sort of scans
- Real-time protection is disabled and can't be enabled
- Privacy Control is disabled and can't be enabled

What I have done:

- searched the forum
- rebooting my PC did not solve the problem
- ran the analysis using "sysdump.exe" and "FileInfo.exe" available on Bitdefender website and attached the output file to this thread.
- ran "sysinfo32" command in Windows' Run command line. Exported and attached the output file to this thread.

Please check the attached files for further technical info.

Help is much appreciated. I can not simply depend on reinstalling BitDefender Anti Virus 2008 as there is no guarantee this won't happen again. I need to know what caused it so I can prevent it in future. This not just a single issue - none of the anti virus features function at this moment.

Many Thanks,

rezz
P.S. I zipped archived one of the TXT files because it was 3.5Mb in size.

I Can Feel your Pain As I Have Also Gone Through From This Similar Situation.I Used BDTS 2008,Updated The Product Regularly,Evaluated It For Around 7 Or 8 Days & Then Purchased The Licensed. But 2 Hours After Entering The Key Suddenly The Product Expired. After A Reboot The Problem Got Solved But Again After An Update It Expired. Then Started Some Other Problems Like system Getting Freezed,Logging Off Not Working,Shutdown Not Working,Unable To Stop It From Task Manager Or Stopping Services. The Only Way Was To Unplug The Cable From Socket.Again I Started The system & What do you Know, All Problems Were Suddenly Gone But After Some Time They Were Back Again With some more New Problems Like Features Disabled Or Greyed Out.

I Think If you Frequently Use Like Registry cleaner Not Fixers,Then This Kind Of Problems Arises. Also If You Use Shell Packs For Transforming Windows system Files Can Also Lead To Similar Problems.I Am not Sure But I Think So.Actually I Have Installed It In One Of My Relative's Computer & It Is Working Very Fine. The Thing Is He Does Not Change Any Settings Of BD,Even Open BD To See Anything But It Is Working Fine For Many Months. But Still I Think There Are Millions Of freewares & sharewares Available To Download But None Of Them Is So Buggy & Sensitive Like BD.
Recently, I Used BDIS 2009 For 12 Days.12 Days Means That After 11th Day It Started To Freeze My System As BDTS 2008 Did.I Did It To Check It's stability But It Failed Again.I Think I Will Never Use This Product Again & Also They Should change Their Product Name From BitDefender To BUGDEFENDER As They Should First Learn How To Solve Their Products In Built Bugs Before Addressing the Virus Issues As These Problems Are Much Bad Than Viruses.

Currently I Am Using KIS 2009 & It's Working Very Fine For Me,Also It Is Very Fast Than BD .

This is the same thing happened to me. BD stopped working after i did a Program Update.

It seems BD had deleted a Registry Entry. Heres how i fixed it,

Open Registry Editor (Start > Run > Regedit.exe)

Open:
CODE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitDefender\BitDefender Threat Scanner

If u have the same problem like mine then there will be no "EnginesFolder" entry but there will be a "EnginesFolder2" entry.

So, rename "EnginesFolder2" to "EnginesFolder" and restart the PC for the changes to take effect.

I hope this solves ur problem.

Do One More Thing.Open Control Panel -> Click Administrative Tools -> Click Services.Search For The Service Workstation.See That It Is Set To Automatic Start If Not Make To start Like That. Then Log Off & Log On your system & Check The BD Problem. This Should Solve Your Problem.

Wow, I made a new topic but it seems that I missed your topic searching for an answer to my problems. I have the exact same as you. I tried the Enginefolder 2 in my registery, but it didn't make a difference. Maybe using CCleaner as often as I do is fsckins stuf up.
