I had Norton AV, Cybersitter and Spybot on my computer and uninstalled them all. I then installed BD IS 2008. Once installed I could not open the security center. The program seems to be running fine otherwise, I just can access the security center. Clicked on all the available icons and it would not open. Called support and they said I needed to download and run the Norton removal tool so I did and completed that. Then to run the repair on BD. Did that and still no security center. So I called them back and they had me uninstall BD using their cleanup tool. Did that and reran the Norton cleanup tool again. Reinstalled BD and still no security center. They then had me download some programs that gather info about my system and BD to send back to them, but have not heard back yet. Has anyone had this problem before? I'm running XP SP2. I wasted a perfectly good Sunday afternoon with this software and quite frankly am ready to throw it in the garbage and try something else.

Hi Raliegh, Sorry about your problem... I'm using the BD Anti-Virus only and had a problem a few weeks ago... I ran similar programs, if the same ones and sent it in... They gave directions to a new d/l and all is ok.... What I'm saying is, give them a chance to review the info and see what have to say...
I wish you luck,
Norman

Thanks for the help Niels. I will try it all in a few days. I still have to cool down a little from my Sunday afternoon in the house working on this install when it was beautiful, in the 80's outside. Will report back with results.

I finally got around to trying again. Still no go. Tried your first suggestion and it gives me an error message. Also I had to change part of your text. There's a space between BitDefender and 2008. This is what I typed regsvr32 c:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdGUICtl.dll. It gives me a message "LoadLibrary("c:\Program") failed - The specified module could not be found." I haven't tried the .net framework update yet. I would have to assume registering the dll is more important.
Ok minutes later I found in another forum to put quotes around the file path. So I did, this is what I typed, regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdGUICtl.dll". Then I got this message "c:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdGUICtl.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file could not be registered.

Update. Niels, as stated in my previous reply neither of your suggestions worked. While reading some other posts I thought I'd give this a try. Simply go into the BitDefender 2008 folder and double click the file seccenter.exe, and it worked. I am able to get to all the settings. So now I'm feeling better about the program. But none of the icons Bitdefender put on my computer work. I'd still like to get the thing to work properly so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

One more update today. I tried to run a virus scan and it failed. It will not allow any type of scan. Thought I was actually getting somewhere then this. So I went to their online chat support and they now gave me a free upgrade to IS2009. She stated it will fix all my problems. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes hoping she is correct. I'll update again later.

I didn't plan to reply today anymore but I had to. I tried to install the 2009 version and it will not work either. When I try to open the security center it comes up with a white screen that says total security 2009. It's supposed to be internet security 2009. Needless to say it still does not work. My next move is to give up on this big pile of crap. I read all the posts online about how bad Norton is. I NEVER had issues with Norton and will likely go back to it. DON'T PURCHASE THIS SOFTWARE unless you want to waste hours and hours of your time. I only hope I can get my money back.

After the unsuccessful install of IS2009 I emailed their support. Got a replay and they want me to send in those dump files of my system and the condition of Bitdefender. I already did this for my issues with IS2008 but they never replied back. Better luck this time hopefully. These are my issues with 2009...
1 - At the end of the install it encountered a critical error.
2 - When trying to open the security center all I get is a blank white window
3 - The systray icon says services are not available and I should restart the computer.
4 - After restart the systray icon now has the exclamation mark and says several issues affect your computer
5 - I click the fix all issues and all I get again is a blank white window and nothing gets fixed.
6 - And I still cannot get into the security center window after restart.
This is their last chance for a while. I will likely keep the software because getting my $50 back is probably not worth the fight. I am really quite tired of this and need to move on. Maybe a month or two down the road they will have fixed all the bugs and I can attempt to install it again.

Update: It's been over a month since sending in those dump files of my system and have not heard a peep from Bitdfender. I was asked to send them in again a week ago after the unsuccessful install of 2009 and have not heard back about them either. Is this typical?

Had a little free time yesterday morning so I thought I'd try calling BD support, again. Gave him one of my ticket ID's (yes I have 2 open with them) and tried to explain again what my problems are with IS2008. He looked at the dump files I sent in over a month ago and said they looked clean. But he said he would forward them as we were speaking to their technical people and I would have an email back in one hour with a fix. I made him repeat himself several times as there was no way I believed him. He assured me over and over, one hour, one hour. Well it's now been about 28 hours and no reply. I'm not surprised. Hopefully my next post to this forum will be about how happy I am with a competitors software.

After over a month and a half of headaches and countless hours trying to troubleshoot my computer and help Bitdefender debug their software I've officially given up. As you can read in my previous posts I've been more than patient and after all this time my IS2009 still will not work correctly. All along I figured something on my computer did not cooperate with Bitdefender but no one could figure out what it was.
I find it very interesting that a month and a half of at least a dozen install/uninstalls, sending in my system files to Bitdefender 3 times (and they never found any conflicts) and countless hours of scouring my computer for problems, that it still does not work. So last night I uninstalled it one more time and downloaded the trial version of System Shield 2008 and it installed with no problems and works great. Yes not a single issue during install. And not a single issue using it. It works perfectly. It scans just fine and never tells me it's not responding and I should restart my computer. Oh and one other thing, the parental controls filter only blocked 2 of the 50+ websites I had to add to the BD white list.
I am now going to pursue getting my money back from BD. Thanks to all for any help you provided. I just wish it would have helped.
