Full Version: Backup Bitdefender Settings?

Is it possible to make a backup of settings such as the firewall program rules? Every time I reinstall the program I have to go through the program alert routines all over again, as well as the registry permissions, and it'd be great if there was a way of exporting these rules so that I could just import them again when the need arises.

Thanks biggrin.gif

Dear Paddy,

Yes that is possible first right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock press on open advanced settings press on advanced, save all settings the best thing is that you create a new folder because otherwise lots of files will be placed. Later on you can import these settings. This will back up every settings. If you only want the firewall profile than you have to do this go to start,my computer, open the program files folder,BitDefender,BitDefender 2008,Firewall folder select all by pressing ctrl+a till everything is highlighted after that press ctrl+c and to paste it press ctrl+v.

Best regards
Niels

Thanks for the reply.

I was aware of that particular backup option, but I thought that it only backed up the advanced settings themselves, and not the settings for the entire program, because I had tried it before and it didn't seem to work. I must have done it wrong.

When I import the settings, will I have to rename my firewall's Profile Name to match the one that I backed up in order for it to work? It is currently named "Home", and the backup file is named "Default untrusted 11_". Should I rename the backed up file itself to "Home" before importing it, or just rename the profile from within the program after importing?

Thanks for your time biggrin.gif

Dear Paddy,

That could be because the BitDefender Selfprotection services denies any changes that are made to the BitDefender installation directory.

Infact what happens is that if you import the back-upped settings the files in the BitDefender installation folder are just being overwritten by the ones that you have back-upped. By a clean install it doesn't matter if you give your firewall profile a different name. But it's better that you change the name afterwards.
