Full Version: Av 2008: Vsserv Service Does Not Work

I am running AV 2008 on Vista Home Premium. Until last week all was fine. On one reboot however windows service center reports that the anti virus program was not active. BDs security center displays 2 critical warnings with antivirus and identity control, both of which are disabled. It is not possible to re-enable them.

I uninstalled BD, used the removal tool and reinstalled it. It seems to run just fine UNTIL it updates itself. Then it asks for a reboot and ceases to work afterwards. The service "Bitdefender Virus Shield" is inactive. Trying to start the service manually, it works for a few seconds and then quits with the message that the service was started but stopped right thereafter. Its start type is set to "automatic". Setting it to manual and then trying to start does not work either.

I would be enormously grateful for suggestions - or better a fix to this issue (as it renders the machine entirely unprotected).

Best regards

I have now successfully resolved the situation. A clean install of the UK English version now works again (before I had the German version installed). Another contributing factor might have been Ashampoo Burning Studio, which I also uninstalled in the process.
