My xp is really running slow.

I have had bdv10 for awhile now and the problem is getting worse. I have run all the software for checking for bots, spyware and viruses - nothing found.

When my system slows down, I check the task manager, it show process the (bdss.exe) using 80 - 100% of the cpu. When I kill the process, the cpu drops down into the 20s.

I am sure that I am losing the realtime protection, but 80 - 100 % cpu usage is not acceptable.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Thanks wacko.gif

Hello Virus Hater,

As far as I know, BD v10 had a problem: bdss.exe could be very easily flooded by some applications, resulting in high CPU and memory consumption. This situation appears when an application is executing some other very small tool too many times in a very short period of time. The application that made me find this problem is XMAPP's Control Panel, but I'm sure it's not the only situation.
At the time I found this vulnerability, I reported it, but it was never fixed.

To check if this is the cause of your slowdowns, please close absolutely all applications that you don't use, disable all startup items and see if the problems persists. If it doesn't, then start the applications that you currently use, one-by-one, until you find the one that floods BitDefender.

However, BitDefender 2008 series doesn't have this vulnerability. If you find that what I've said above is the cause of your problem, you can try upgrading to the coresponding version of BitDefender 2008:
BD AV 10 -> BD AV 2008
BD AV Plus 10 and BD IS 10 -> BD IS 2008

Upgrading is free for the rest of the licensing period (you can use the same license).

Hi Cris,

Thank you for the feedback. I think that I had the most problems when using IE7 and having multiply window tabs open.

I upgraded to BD AV 2008 and the problem seems to be resolved.

Thanks again
