But i get the Err: 81000306 Windows Live Messenger
can any one plz help.

Niels
Dear losts,

That error could also be cause by problems with the windows live network. Then you have to wait till microsoft fixes the issue. You can see the status here.

Make sure that you have opened these ports for windows live messenger: TCP 80, 443, 1863
Right click and click on edit rule and press on advanced add now these ports. These ports needs to be open to be able to log-in.

Best regards
Niels

Easier then this:
Go to Firewall -> Traffic -> Edit Profile, find Live Messenger in both lists and move the rules to the top of each list. This way, Live Messenger will have access to any ports and protocols it needs.

Dear losts

Good to hear that your problem is solved.
Personally I only open the necessary ports. Because otherwise at the moment you could have open ports but normally this will not cause any harm if stealth mode is enabled.

Hello Niels,

Apparently, you understood it wrong. Allowing an application in BitDefender FW to use a certain port doesn't mean BD opens that port. The only responsible for opening and closing ports is that application. If that application doesn't need a certain port, it will remain closed.

BitDefender's role is only to stealth the ports and to allow/block (based on the rules) the applications to open ports (but, again, if the application doesn't need a port, it won't be opened)

Also, I'm not sure your suggestion worked, because right from the beginning, the rule created for Live Messenger should have been for full access. That means the rule allowed Live Messenger to open any ports it needed. The reason why it didn't work was because there was another rule that blocked one of the ports (my bet is for the1863 port) and this can only be solved by moving the rule on the top, so it has the highest priority of all. smile.gif
