Dear ukawa
What operating system do you have currently installed? Try to press on retry. If that still fails please do this go to start, run, type services.msc press enter. Left click on the BitDefender Virus Shield service and press on start.
Best regards

For me, this turned out to be a MS Windows msiexe problem. I cannot recall the actual MS link, but it was VERY, VERY easy to find, as it was just a search of MS for msi, install, problem, repair. I found a few tools, repaired the misfunctioning msi file, and the install was just fine. Try looking at MS and search those words. You'll find the fix in no time. Wish I could remember the link, but that was two years ago, about the same BD and other AVs started having these problems.

OK, I nearly trashed a PC trying to get this error, and I finally did. Now I'm trying to remember how I fixed it, but it is an msi problem. Remove BD 10. Download the very old BD 8 Free from softpedia.com or some place where the installation file is clean. Install BD 8 Free. Reboot. Uninstall BD 8 Free. Reboot. Use the BD 10 file to repair. You'll get an error asking you if you want to ditch the old BD 8 Free before continuing. YES. Reboot and install the BD 10.
Right now I'm so tired that I can scarcely see, so if the preceding does not work, switch BD 10 with BD 8 in the stuff above.

Dear,
You can always try to update the microsoft installer service. To do that you can download the latest build
here.

If you install BD 10, then find all msi files associated with BD 10. One msi will say, "MSI Installer Package For BitDefender 8 Pro." DON'T ATTEMPT A REINSTALL with the BD 8 Pro MSI still in play.
