Full Version: Bitdefender 2008 Crashing After Recent Update

I have a Windows XP based system and a Windows Vista x64 based system and for several days now after a recent update Bitdefender 2008 IS keep crashing and wants to send a report and re-initialize. Problem is the re-initialize doesn't work all the time so I am left w/o protection while at work or asleep.

It is crashing on both systems and a friend of mine today asked me why his was also crashing so that makes 3 systems.

Anyone else having issues? wacko.gif

Same problem here on Vista x64. Here's the message I'm seeing in the event log:

CODE
The BitDefender Threat Scanner service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 5 time(s).

Looks like it started 12/4 at 12:57pm CST. I've also received the following error since installing the application a month or so ago:

CODE
The BDSelfPr service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I get the following error all the time as well but never paid any attention to it since everything seemed to be working:

The BDSelfPr service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
Glitch
Finally got some response from them requesting a screen capture and logs etc. I've just sent them so hopefully someone will be looking into it pretty soon.

Dear all

First check if you can find bdselfpr.sys located in your BitDefender installation directory. If present go to start, run, type devmgmt.msc press enter go to view (display) click on show hidden devices. You will now see a new section that is visible now expand non plug and play compatible drivers double click on BDSelfPr
it should be enabled, click on the driver tab current status should be started (running),start up type should be set on request if not change it and press on ok.

Go to start, run, type services.msc press enter see if all services that have BitDefender in the name are running. If not left click on them and press on start.

I did all this and everything looks right. I still am getting the Threat Scanner error several times a day. seems to be widely reported by those running Vista.

had 2 of these windows up when I came home on my Vista x64 system.

Are you guys not receiving the logs from these errors to know what the issue is?

I seem to be missing bdselfpr.sys so I guess I'll try re-installing.

Do you mean bdfsfltr.sys ?

Something is really wrong with the current Vista X64 2008 version... after a complete re-installation I am having the same issues... no firewall and no realtime protection.

It seems to work fine until it updates... then is becomes a useless pos wasting disk space and memory.

Hi,
I have the same problem and i don't have the bdselfpr.sys file on my directory. Everything was ok until a few days.

Hope for a quick fix for this - i have Vista64 Ultimate.

Dear all

This is only a user forum no support forum. I already reported this issue. I recommend that you contact livechat. The problem is I can't upload my version because I only have the 32 bit version of the driver. No bdfsfltr.sys is an antivirus driver.

I've got a case opened so I hope it gets fixed soon. angry.gif

Hi Everyone,

I'm having the same issue with BD 2008 with Vista Ultimate x64. My temp workaround is to uninstall and remove the BD folder in \Program Files\.

Download the x64 kit from the website and install, reboot. Once you come back up go right into the update settings where you change things like intervals and update servers.

Change the options for silent updates to "prompt before downloading" for manual & auto updates. This lets us de-select the program update and only get the definitions. It works fine for me right now and I'm holding out for an update to correct the issue with vsserv not starting / bdselfpr missing.

Hope this helps some of you out!

Thanks, Niels, I hope it gets fixed soon.

Keep in mind all - I think the bdfsfltr.sys issue is separate from the constant crashes. That issue started in my event log long before the crashes. I'm sorry for bringing it up on this topic if it has derailed efforts for a fix.

Dear octbit

I still recommend that you contact them (Softwin). But you have to wait till tomorrow.
I suppose that you already tried this rightclick on the BitDefender installer package and click on run as administrator. See if you now can locate the service. It's also important which language version of BitDefender are you using?

Best regards
Niels

PS: This applies also to all who have the same problem.
