Full Version: Integrity Rules Not Working

I'm having problems with Integrity Rules.

I created my first rule as a rule that is related to a mastercard. The rule name and type are no-brainers. For the rule data, I entered the last 4 or 5 digits. Match whole words and case are unchecked. Scan http and smtp are checked.

The rule is accepted by Bitdefender. No exceptions are made. Identity protection and privacy control is enabled. I also rebooted just in case the settings need this. However, when I go to a website to my bank's web site to check the status of my mastercard (via entering the full credit number on a web page plus password), I am able to login succesfully.

Shouldn't BitDefender stop the submission of the credit number as I login to the site?

Any insight is appreciated. rolleyes.gif

Have you tried give BD all the digits?
Niels
Dear canlab

How did you create the rule?

First you have to select credit card.

You have to enter all digits of your credit card. This is necessary so BitDefender knows how that information is being entered on the internet. Because how you enter the digits is standard BitDefender only reacts when you enter your entire digits.

Thanks for the response.

I created the rule using the wizard. Set the rule type to credit card and entered the data. Selected scan http and smtp and whole words. Match case is unchecked. Entered some rule description and closed everything up.

I also tried editing the existing rule...to ensure I entered the number correctly.

I have tried all the digits. Match whole words is checked. I also tried recreating the rule just in case I entered the numbers incorrectly...even rebooted.

I also used IE7 and firefox. Is firefox supported?

Any more ideas before I go to tech support?
Cris
Hello canlab,

The Privacy Protection module is working just fine in my case. But the way that some things are explained in that wizard might make you make some settings that don't work. And I believe you were tricked by those things.

What I'm talking about is that, on the first page, it is suggested that you do NOT type all data that you want to protect (as it is said there, type only 12 of the 16 figures). But, on the next page, the option Full words is checked by default, which means that if you types (at the previous page) only a part of what you want to protect, it won't protect anything.

So, a few examples:
Example 1:
- full data you want protected: 1234567
- what you type in the wizard: 123
- Full words: Yes
==> Result:
When you type 1234567 in your browser, it will be allowed.

Example 2:
- full data you want protected: 1234567
- what you type in the wizard: 123
- Full words: No
==> Result:
When you type 1234567 in your browser, it will be blocked (so you are protected).

Also, note that this protection only works for the HTTP and SMTP protocols. So, if you try to type the data on a secured page (which uses the HTTPS protocol), nothing will be blocked. Why? Because secure pages are considered to be legit (like online-bancking).

Yes, firefox is supported. In fact, this protection is totally browser-independent. It doesn't matter what browser you use...it doesn't even matter if you use a browser, because it scans and filters absolutely everything that uses HTTP protocol (port 80 of your computer) and SMTP protocol (port 25 of your computer).

In other words... think of it this way: spyware applications don't use the browser. They send data themselves. When they try to access port 80 to send your private data, BitDefender will block that attempt.

Thanks Cris,

Yes I was tricked. Your reply should be added in BD's help file laugh.gif

I did not clue in on the http vs https. A way to test if it is BD rules are working is just enter a rule related to your phone number and google your phone number and you should be blocked.

I think there would be a benefit to add https as well.

Thanks for your (and others) help in solving my problem.

Cheers!

I am so lost on what you are talking about. But, I just got a username so I could ask a question on this forum and find you are talking about the thing I am having trouble with.

Everynight Bitdefender shuts down, Identity rule, not identified. OK, I am totally lost on what this is talking about. Am I suppose to put all my credit cards I use on line here?

Any help you can give me will be great appreciated!

Also, one more thing, I just ran a scan and I have 4 viruses in my archive files that it can't touch. How on earth do I get them out of there?

Again, thanks!
