Hello canlab,
The Privacy Protection module is working just fine in my case. But the way that some things are explained in that wizard might make you make some settings that don't work. And I believe you were tricked by those things.
What I'm talking about is that, on the first page, it is suggested that you do NOT type all data that you want to protect (as it is said there,
type only 12 of the 16 figures). But, on the next page, the option
Full words is checked by default, which means that if you types (at the previous page) only a part of what you want to protect, it won't protect anything.
So, a few examples:
Example 1:- full data you want protected:
1234567- what you type in the wizard:
123
- Full words:
Yes
==> Result: When you type
1234567 in your browser, it will be
allowed.
Example 2: - full data you want protected:
1234567 - what you type in the wizard:
123
- Full words:
No
==> Result: When you type
1234567 in your browser, it will be
blocked (so you are protected).
Also, note that this protection only works for the HTTP and SMTP protocols. So, if you try to type the data on a secured page (which uses the HTTPS protocol), nothing will be blocked. Why? Because secure pages are considered to be legit (like online-bancking).
QUOTE
I also used IE7 and firefox. Is firefox supported?
Yes, firefox is supported. In fact, this protection is totally browser-independent. It doesn't matter what browser you use...it doesn't even matter if you use a browser, because it scans and filters absolutely everything that uses HTTP protocol (port 80 of your computer) and SMTP protocol (port 25 of your computer).
In other words... think of it this way: spyware applications don't use the browser. They send data themselves. When they try to access port 80 to send your private data, BitDefender will block that attempt.
