A few times each day Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 has a message box pop up saying threat scanner is shutting down, wants to restart and send a report to Bitdefender. Just started happening the last few days. Anyone else had this issue?
Machinist
Same exact problem here, anyone have an idea on why this suddenly started.

Dear coho joe and Machinist

I don't have that problem with BitDefender Internet Security 2008. I use windows xp home with sp2.
What operating system are you using?

Can you reproduce the problem? Is it always on the same time? When does it started?
Please take a look at the BitDefender Threat Scanner folder that you will find when you navigate to program files, common files,BitDefender see if you find a report file or in program files,BitDefender,BitDefender 2008,logs. You have to look first if a logfile is present before sending it otherwise you will not find a logfile.

Best regards

I get the same pop-up and best to my recollection, started last week. It is not something I can reproduce, it just happens. The warning appears to be sending a log file to BD. Is BD not getting like thousands of data coming in from users? The warning even has a place to put your email address so you can get a feedback report. It happens on all three of my machines. Two Vista boxes and one XP machine.

Any update is appreciated.

Same exact problem here.
Just started happening a few days ago.

I can't make it happen manually it just occurs randomly.

Probs like this are what made me shift from Zonealarm to BD in the first place dry.gif

Another same here.
Vista Home Premium
pws
same here Vista Ultimate 32bit, and a friends machine running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Not reproducible, occurs at (seemingly) random intervals. Initially when it started (last Friday) it was several times an hours, now its settled down to several times a day.

I have dumps using sysdump and fileinfo2008 taken just after a crash occurred.
I have tried contacting support via the web form to see if they want the dumps, but no response.

If someone from BD want them, let me know and I'll send them (I won't post them on a public forum though).
Glitch
I run Vista premium 32bit and have the same problem.

It started around Thursday 29th November after my Internet Security 2008 asked to reboot (obviously some kind of update)

I cannot reproduce the error message it just happens when it feels like it but sometimes during the night I can come back to this system the following day to see several of these messages. I enter my email address and click to send but it just gives an error message, the worrying part is it has a tick box asking to restart the threat scanner does this mean while im not here and dont click to restart my system is vunerable?

I've tried contacting support from the website but still not recieved any response from them. It obviously has something to do with the last update that required the reboot as its been running fine for the past few months.

I have a meeting to attend this morning but intend telephoning when I get back. If I get some kind of better response from them on the phone I'll let you guys know.

Here Here! More of the same. I am running up on the end of my free trial - BD seems like a good product now with this thing poping up I worry that I am not protected and belive me BD is catching stuff - bad stuff all the time.
What to do?

Any offical word on this popup threat scanner stoped working report?!?!

I'm another one with this problem. Got BD running on 2 pc's - one with winxp, the other with Vista Home Premium 32Bit and guess what the one with Vista Home Premium has the problems. Have uninstalled, reinstalled and still get the Bitdefender threat scanner encoutered a problem screen.

However unlike other people I do seem to be able to recreate the message, just be running a system scan.

Still happening here. Twice on the laptop today, none on the desktop, both running Vista. I have entered my email address both time today as I had before and nothing from Bitdefender.

The silence from Bitdefender is deafening.

Same problem here, running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Its now 3 days later from my original post and the threat scanner message has not come up for about 2 days now. Does this mean its fixed? Given the reponse from many people recently I'm wondering if it could have been caused by a recent update file that is now been overwritten with a newer one. I too am running Vista home premium.

I could not reproduce the threat scanner message coming up again, but now BitDefender is quietly working properly again. This little glitch hasn't swayed my impression of BitDefender at all - I still think its terrific security software and I will be converting my trial version to a paid version in the next week or so.

Same here, Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Seems that the BitDefender Threat Scanner Service stops and is turned to manual instead of automatic when the error occurs. Starting the service backup let's you run scans, etc.

Just got home from work (and a night out at the pub) and low and behold, 5 error messages.

On the plus side, finally had a response from BD support, so I supplied them with the dumps, but so far nothing back from them.

I guess you lucky then Joe. I'm still getting the error about 3-5 times a day. I'm about ready to uninstall the product and find something else or at least until this product becomes stable again.

FWIW, I have exactly the same problem here with Vista Business edition. BD 2008 worked fine for months (since mid-August, when I bought this machine) and then started crashing several times a day all of a sudden. Clearly there's an update somewhere that's gone bad...
trident
i concur that the problem has to do with a recent update from bitdefender that shuts down the threat scanner from time to time. i haven't had this problem until a few days ago when bitdefender live prompted me to restart my computer due to a live update. any idea on when they'll post an update to fix this problem?

More to the point, when will they actually admit that they stuffed up.
So far all I have had from them is this [form] email from support.

Dear Paul,

In order to better understand the situation you are dealing with we need
the Build of the BitDefender product you are using and all the files from:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BitDefender\Temp\

To find out the Build version please right click on the BitDefender icon
from your Sys Tray (near the clock and date) and hit About. The version
should be displayed under the form: 11.0.XX

We need more information about your operating system and BitDefender. Thus
please be so kind to take few moments and read the following KB article:
http://www.bitdefender.com/KB389-en--Askin...assistance.html

NOTE: The information you send us is used for testing purposes only and
will be treated accordingly.

We will try to reproduce the situation in our lab and we'll get back to you
with a possible solution.

Best regards,

All this info and more has been sent off 3 days ago, and no response from the slackers.

I'm still getting them.

I've just recieved email from Bitdefender technical support as follows

The issue that you have reported has been acknowledged by our team and is currently being worked on for a fix. As soon as we will have reached a solution, you will be notified via email. The fix will be done by means of automatic update and won't require any additional action from your part.

Thank you for your support and patience.

So fingers crossed after the next update that requires reboot we should see the end of this issue smile.gif

anyone else still encountering this problem?

Well my system hasn't asked to restart yet but the past 48 hours have been error free smile.gif I'm wondering if theyve found the cause and fixed it.
