I upgrade from v10 and install BitDefender 2008 and now find that when I insert a USB pen drive, I can no longer see the drive listed as before. If I wait long enough sometimes it shows. The dialog box that is usually shown which allows you to show files is also suppressed. If I am looking at Disk Management, I can see the device shown for a few seconds, and then made to disappear.
As a result I have had to remove BitDefender 2008 altogether as I am more able to get work done without it in place than with it. This does not put the system back to where it was before though. No, it does not tidy up properly and it is necessary to do a System restore to get back the functionality I had before.
If BitDefender is responsible for suppressing or denying access to USB drives then they must present some way to configure that USB file access is allowed/disallowed and not just to deny me access.
At the same time I also found that my use of an HSDPA USB modem was totally gutted for performance if not accessibility. Co-incidence? i think not.
If I want the level of protection that I appear to be getting, I may as well leave my computer switched off and go to the pub. At least then life would be more enjoyable and less obstructed.
BitDefender, If you do stuff like this make it appropriate and configurable or just plain leave it out. AND TELL US ABOUT IT!!!!!!
Highly disgruntled.

Hello PeterW
First of all this is a user forum where all moderators are just volunteers.
The behavior you describe is more a windows problem. Does that issue occur on each usb port?
Unplug your pen drive and usb-modem.
Try this go to start, run, type devmgmt.msc press enter now expand usb controllers and delete only the different USB ROOT HUB entries by rightclicking on it and choose uninstall. Reboot your pc and attach your pen drive again.
Best regards
Niels

I think the behaviour is not Windows related but caused directly by BitDefender 2008.
I have done a restore twice today, then re-installed BitDefender 2008 and each time instead of being able to use explorer to view files it shows me nothing or no files. If I have Disk Management open I can actually see the usb disk almost after inserting the pen drive in the usb port and then immediately after disappearing, so it has obviously been shut down by some process. Once I do a restore to pre Defender 2008 install the system behaves correctly. On both occasions prior to installing BitDefender 2008, I could see what was on the USB disk on insertion. In between there has been no difference at all to Windows in the way of Windows Updates. This is all down to BitDefender. I wouldn't mind if I was told and had the means to control or override behaviour. I don't so I mind very, very much.
I have had a really close look at the LocalPolicy snap in to no avail.
I have had a growing sense of unease over the inappropriate action of some piece of software which had to be a service running in the background. My work time has been badly dirupted for a couple of weeks. the time lost is many, many times the value of BitDefender. The problem goes away as soon as BitDefender 2008 is removed. I don't have the time and cannot afford to deal with a product which locks down but gives no means of managing the impacts it has on my system. i just plain cannot afford it I have lost about £750 in time struggling with this and my conclusion is BitDefender just has to go.
I disagree very strongly with your assertion that Windows is the cause. It provides the means but bitDefender is without any shadow of doubt the cause and it is not appropriate or proportionate. I too can keep my house safe by nailing the door shut but then I can't use it. That to me is the comparison and in the process it has made itself redundant to my needs. I will not tolerate any software that wastes my time.
This is a bug. A bad one. It was reported in an area inviting bug reports. It was moved within hours of being posted to another area. I am not impressed and I am out of here. I appreciate that the moderators may be volunteers. I applaude your involvement. Please be appropriate and raise this with the company and developers.
cheers

Hello PeterW
I have entered different usb sticks without any issues. Did you tried what I said?
Where was it reported I couldn't find only 1 issue with an ipod nano I reported that issue. That issue didn't appeared on other ipods. I can confirm because I have an ipod myself.
For the rest there weren't any issues mentioned with usb sticks. It could be a conlfict with your particular stick.
Did you used the
uninstall tool in prior when you upgraded? If not use it and install again.
Best regards
Niels

I found this forum after spending a week experiencing exactly the same problems Peter W decribes. Has Bitdefender or anyone else found a viable solution or repair other than removing Bitdefender.
