Suddenly Real Time Protection (P2P and file access) is not working, a week after install. When I try the fix, nothing happens. I can't access settings to fix it, and the check box is greyed out. Any thoughts? It was working previously.

Hello branedamag

Go to start, run, type services.msc press enter. The BitDefender Virus shield service should be started. If not double click on it and choose start. It can also be caused because updates are being installed. What is the status when you open BitDefender and take a look at the BitDefender Security Center

Best regards

No updates were being installed at the time, but my update to you is that the problem vanished on its own, with no intervention from me, later in the evening. So I am puzzled, but all seems to be well. Thanks for the suggestion, though. If this pops up again I will try it.

Not for me it hasn't! I installed Bitdefender Antivirus 2008 in September 2007 and ever since I installed it, I haven't gotten Real-Time Protection (P2P and file access) to work. I can't enable it. I ran services.msc and I only have Bitdefender Communicator, Bitdefender Desktop Update Service and Bitdefender Threat Scanner running. Am I missing something? I do a lot of file-sharing and I know it's a weak point for viruses to get in and infect my computer, if it hasn't already happened! How can I get P2P and file access protection to work?

You're missing the BitDefender Virus Shield service. I suggest you uninstall and reinstall BitDefender.

Dear Musicman

Download the vsserv that I uploaded here. Place it in the BitDefender installation folder. This is only for the 32 bit versions of BitDefender.

If that fails:

Did you used the BitDefender uninstaller tool? If not use it. You can download it here. Run it and reboot your pc. Install it again.
