Full Version: Modules Disabled On Startup

I have BDv10 on a Windows XP SP2 desktop.

When I log back on to my computer in the mornings, I see that the BitDefender icon in the system tray shows it's not fully red. When I mouseover the icon, I frequently see any of the following:

"Some BitDefender modules are disabled"

"Firewall/Antispam/Antispyware (or all of these) are disabled"

I cannot re-enable the modules. I have to exit BitDefender, then restart it.

This is ridiculous. It has become a daily routine to exit BD, then restart it before I do ANYTHING ELSE on the computer, because nearly every day some or all modules are disabled! It's NUTS! I didn't buy BD to have to do this, I expect it to WORK. Others raved about how great BD is, but I'm not seeing that here.

Anytime I am notified of an update from BD I let it run, so I have the most updated version of BDv10. Upgrading to BD2008 is not an option. I am not willing to throw more money at a product that is this flawed, and I am only halfway through my license period with v10.

Additionally, I have encountered problems with BD detecting viruses in "archived email files". It detects the infection, then says "disinfection failed" and "move failed". I'm told that those infected files are probably in email archives. When I ask how to go about accessing the archive and removing those infected files from the archive, I get vague answers even when I am very specific about which email client(s) and other system information I have. Apparently I have some 27 infections...and I can't remove any of them.

Just in case someone is reading this, I use Mozilla Thunderbird exclusively for email. I did have Outlook, but I have not used it in years.

Hello lriggs

An upgrade to version 2008 is free so long your license is still valid.

Please go to start, run, type services.msc press enter double click on each service that has BitDefender in the name the start up type should be automatic and status should be running. If not the case change it and press on apply and ok.

You need this tool for extracting the mail archives of thunderbird. Classify the mails on attachments and look especially to the spam mails. Once an infected attachment is found BitDefender will be able to delete it.

Best regards

Thank you, Niels--
I checked the BitDefender services as you directed; all the services were already set to startup type "automatic" and I am still having this problem with having to exit BD then restart it. So, unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem.

I'm looking into your suggestion for accessing the Thunderbird archives to remove infected files. I'll report on that later.

Again, thanks for taking the time to answer my message. I'm still a bit frustrated with BD because I'm still having difficulties but I appreciate people helping me on this.
