With BitDefender Internet Version 10, and running XP SP2, I don't recall if I ever disabled Windows Firewall, though I know there's one built in. Should I leave it be, if it's enabled? Or disable it?

Same question on behalf of a friend who has just downloaded BDF 2008 for a 30-day trial after finding herself unhappy with McAfee which she just purchased a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know whether she downloaded the BDF firewall, or just the Antivirus. I was suggesting she get the whole package, but she seems to be of the impression that Windows' built in firewall is sufficient. But I couldn't tell her if that was the case or not. I really never knew much about it, and personally wanted the whole package of AntiV and Firewall, from the same vendor.

So those are two questions regarding Windows Firewall (both computers are XP).

Thanks much in advance,
Carol

Hello C-1000

If the windows firewall is enabled I would disable it. But it will not cause many conflicts if you were/are using a separate firewall from another vendor. Go to start, control panel, security center, security center, windows firewall select disable and press on apply.

The windows built-in firewall isn't sufficient enough. In vista the firewall is improved but not in windows xp.
If she doesn't need the total package she can also use a free firewall and only BitDefender Antivirus.

Best regards
Niels
