Since 1-2 weeks I've been facing an increased number of popup messages to allow or deny internet access to processes, even when I previously granted this access.

When I reboot the computer it seems that BD firewall erases the rules previously defined. Does the firewall keep the rules anyway? ad how?

A possible explanation is that you updated these programs. That happens with other firewalls also after each update from a program you have to re-allow it. BitDefender saves everything in a profile. You will find your profile in the installation folder more specific in the firewall subfolder.

This happens quite a lot. I understand that it happens with changes in programs but there are changes made with programs themselves. I discover in advanced configuration that it is possible to accept the rules even when the program changes. Is this correct? I tried it but even then sometimes (not so frequently) some programs are asked for permission. At least the ruleset is kept.
Can you tell me if this is the right way?

That is also normal for example they are using a new port which isn't configured yet in BitDefender firewall so you will receive the pop-up. That feature is used if you wanted to apply that rule for all applications. Not for program version or program changes.

I have this problem as well. Both on my Vista Ultimate 32b and XP Pro laptops. This is not occuring everytime I restart the computer, but rather everytime there are changes in my network. For instance if my computers are connected (either through cable or wireless ad-hoc) and I unplugg, turn off one computer, turn of wireless or anything else you can imagine, then BitDefender creates a new firewall network profile. I've barely used the program for a week, and currently the profile name is 'Default internet 172' on this computer and 'Default internet 41' on the other computer which I'm not using as much.

There's currently "only" 20 profiles in the profiles folder, but still it I've had to accept the internetconnection for MSN and my browsers and every other program I use quite a lot of times this last week. I've plowed through all the settings I can find, and tried reinstalling, but still get the same problem on both computers.

I've not yet managed to find a way to load a previously made profile, only to rename the current one, and even if it was possible to load one, it would be very annoying to have to do that every single time BD desided to create a new one as it does now. There should be one standard profile with the option to save and load profiles for those with a reason to accept some programs here and block them there, but as I cannot see why the regular man on the street should have a use for more than one single profile I feel this current setup with bitdefender creating a new profile for each new networkchange should be terminated.

This resetting of the profile also affects the stealth-mode setting in the advanced-tab, and the trusted zones, making it extremely difficult (read impossible) to share files between my computers, it's also impossible to share the internetconnection unless I completely disable the firewall on BOTH computers.

This whole thing is quite annoying considering I travel alot between different locations, and frequently play games on friendly LANs. Which reminds me that even the Game Mode isn't working all the time. Sometimes I activate Game Mode and start the game, I still get a request to accept or block the game...

Never had any problems on XP with v.10, so going to rollback hoping it will work on Vista as well.

Oh, while I'm at it... Is there a way to make it so that the popups doesn't steal the focus? Been plenty of times that I get a request to allow or block a program while writing, this resulting in me not knowing what I just allowed/blocked.

What Vaks said triggered a small light in my head.
@Nunes: let me guess, you have a dynamic IP, right? You don't have the same IP everytime you switch on your PC...and that's why BitDefender deletes all the rules.
In fact, BD doesn't delete anything. Instead, it creates a new profile for each new IP you get. And that's a big bug that needs to be reported: on computers with dynamic IPs and on laptops that are used when you travel, BitDefender firewall can't be used, because everytime you switch it on, the Firewall needs a new configuration.

BDv10 didn't have this problem, because it had an option to apply the same profile to all new networks, option which is missing in the new BD2008.

Yes, the "Use generic profile for all networks" has been re-introduced.

Hmm... Reinstalled and activated the "Apply the same (generic) profile to all new networks", but I still have to approve every single program every single time I restart the computer or change network. Been trying to figure this out for one week now, but can't figure out what I do wrong. One time the profile name automatically got set to 'generic profile', but all other times when I check the name it has a new numbered 'Default internet xy'..
This is on Vista Ultimate 32b, have not checked on Windows XP this time.

Getting quite annoying, so hope this at least gets fixed in the next version...
