Hello outrider7

Windows will report sometimes a service falsely that a service has stopped. A service must react for windows in an amount of time. You have to see the status in BitDefender if you see that realtime protection is enabled then vsserv.exe is working correctly.
Also when there is an update some services needs to be restarted before the changes take place.
Does it happens always?

Niels - in the last few days, Windows logs the problem as happening on 10/01 ( 1 time), 10/2 (4 times), 10/3 (1 time) (so far). I do notice when I dismiss the Windows alert window, right click the BitDefender icon in the botton tray, and select SHOW - I do see that all the green check-marks appear - indicating everything is protected. I wondered if this might indicate false alerts on the part of Windows - but I never "catch" it happening so have not been able to determine if there is any amount of time that the system is unprotected. Thank you for your help on this.

Hello outrider7

That are false reports on windows side. So long everything is green in the security center of BitDefender then there isn't anything to worry about. You will find such entries under events. But not always.
Glad that I could assist you.

Are you sure? I know that when bitdefender reports that it is terminating, my security status still shows all green but I don't see any scanning activity in the status window until next time I reboot. My guess is that if the scanning activity isn't displaying, it probably isn't happening.

Hello justDave

If some part is disabled the status in the BitDefender Security Center should change. It will only changes when you disable some parts not when you shutdown your pc or exiting BitDefender by right clicking on the icon. If you have the scan graph enabled you can see when firewall or realtime protection is disabled when you see a red cross.

I know that what you're saying *should be* true. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it isn't. When this happens, I do not have a red cross in my scan graph but I also show no scan activity. The graph is blank until I reboot.

Other than this one (major) issue, BitDefender looks pretty good so far. It's just that if I can't depend on it to keep scanning, it really isn't worth much. See this thread as well: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=3377

Worse, you mention that even though this board is hosted on bitdefender.com, it's staffed by volunteers. That's pretty unusual. Does BD stand behind their product at all?

Dear justDave

You will not always see something appear on the graph because only when there are large folders or files are being scanned. Otherwise you will not see anything but you can verify it by going to antivirus, shield and take a look at the scanned files.

The supermoderators and people who have the Bitdefender of Bitdefender rank work for Softwin. Ofcourse also the virus researchers. I have contact with the person who is responsible for this official user forum. The only real support you can get is via phone, live chat or mail. If it was a support forum it would also being mentionned by the how to get support section on the BitDefender website.
