Full Version: Internet Security 2008 Causing Mail & Printing Problems

Hi..First let me preface my issues by saying that I have contacted support via a mail submission from the support web site as well as a phone call. After the phone call I was told I would receive a mail with further instructions which I never got. The problem submission thru the web site was never answered either. I do not know what type of experience others have had with support but in my view it has been abysmal to this point.

The other day I purchased a 3 user Internet Security 2008 license and installed it on 1 machine. After installation I have encountered multiple problems.
This machine is Windows 2000 SP4.
These are the problems installing IS2008 has caused:

1. Using Outlook 2000 I can no longer receive or send mail. The pop3 protocol times out when attempting to download mail. The actual connection to the external mail server works fine, it is once the mail starts to download that the problem occurs. If I disable the antivirus component of the suite then I am able to send & receive mail.

2. The machine with IS2008 installed has a printer attached to it. I share this printer over my home network. Since the product was installed there is a problem printing from remote machines to the shared printer. I can see that the print job is sucessfully spooled over the network to the machine. When I look at the print queue I can see that 4k of the total of the print job is sent to the printer and then it just stops. The full size of the print job does not matter, it always stops after 4k. I then have to reboot my machine to purge the print queue as I cannot delete the pending print job. If I disable the anti virus component of your product then I am able to print from remote machines again. This problem also happens from the locally attached machine.

3. I stopped the AV scan once to reboot the machine to purge the print queue. When the machine came back up Windows could not find my profile and went to a default profile. I rebooted again and then my profile came back. To test I repeated this 2 more times and each time my profile disappeared again and I had to reboot to get my profile back.

4. I also have to disable the AV component to map a network drive to from remote machines to the machine with IS2008 installed.

Since support has ignored me to this point I was hoping one of you folks may have seen similar issues.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Charlie
Niels
Hello Charlie

1. Go to tools,email-accounts,view or change existing email accounts, next, double click on your email account, press change, more settings, click on the advanced tab,put the slider to long under server time out settings and press on ok to confirm these changes.

4.Open BitDefenderIS 2008 press on settings go to antivirus, shield, custom level, check the option do not scan network shares and press on ok. So you don't have to completely disable the realtime protection.

Best regards
Niels

Niels,

Thank you for the reply. However this did not help. THe only way I can get mail is to turn off all mail scanning. Additionally the only way to print is to turn off the AV component.
I was able to get a response from support so they are now trying to track down the problems. THanks, Charlie

Hello Charlie

This is only a user forum. There aren't support people active. Support will help you further. If that failed I also would recommend you to contact support.
