Hello guys,

After the launch of BitDefender v.2008 family we would like to know what are the things that bother you about our current product and all those other things that you would like to see in our products.
State the issues that are currently bothering you in the v.2008 product family. Feedback and a list of features that you would like to see in the future versions would be great.
Also we would like to know if some of you geeky users had any problems with BitDefender products installed on your less techy friends or family computers
.

Okay, so most of the posters are geeky guys, but how about us gals? Suggest you address your questions to include everyone, not just to the "guys". smile.gif

It's very annoying that you can no longer disable specific components (e.g., Firewall) via right click on the system tray icon. Couldn't you have added an option like '[x] Use classic interface' , so we don't have to go through this new dumbed-down interface?
Tom O'Hara
Having to explicitly allow internet access for application is quite tedious, especially for wireless access at different locations. Furthermore, often it involves well known ones like IE, Firefox, and Google Desktop. BD-2008 recommends allowing access, but it still requires explicit acknowledgement.

It would be better if the interface had an option to bypass acknowledgements in the case of well known applications. For those users wishing to review the cases allowed, there could be a utility that displays the applications allowed and provides a way for the user to block further access.

This way users can get on with their work rather than having to interact with BD-2008 so often. You might argue for using zones instead but that itself is tedious, especially in the case of wireless access from different locations. Again this would be an option off by default, so it would not compromise usage by naive users for which the new interface seems targeted at the expense of technical users.

Hello Tom,

This problem is known. I reported it a few times, but it wasn't fixed. I'm also annoyed by this feature.
I'll report it again. Maybe it will be fixed sometime.

What about an option allowing us to change from the 2008 interface to the v10 interface. I really liked the way v10 looked, it was nice and clean and it felt like I had more... control rolleyes.gif

First of all, this is a suggestion, not a BUG. When you want to make suggestions, use THIS board.

Second of all, what you want is not possible. See THIS thread for details.

Hi,

I'm using Bitdefender Total Security 2008 in Windows Vista and I keep getting the registration wizard back every time I start the computer.

I don't know why this happens. It remembers the license key (brand new valid one), but keeps asking to confirm if it is that one to be used or if I want to insert a new one. After this, it asks me to login or create account later. I've tried both and it doesn't make a difference. I always finish registration successfully, everything seems ok. When I start the computer registration wizard again...

What's going on? This is very annoying. sad.gif

No one?

Hello bluesy,

Please check if bdwizreg.exe is in the StartUp list.
Start -> Run -> msconfig <Enter> -> StartUp.

If it is, disable it and see if the wizard appears again.

I recall that V10 had the option of NOT generating a report if all was well with any particular scan. Here in v2008 I am required to acknowledge that the scan was completed ..and then BD demands that I agree to allow it to Exit.

All I want is for BD to do the job and let me know ONLY IF there is a problem. Is that possible?

No, for the moment, it is not possible.

As I said last time you posted this: I suggested it to TechSupport and the person I talked to seemed to agree. If it really will be added or not...who knows? We can only wait and see.
But until then, please don't post the same question all over the forum, especially in a topic that's meant for issues, not requests.

If you want to add something to this request, you can find your old topic in the Feature Request section. Also, you can talk to LiveAssistance and let them know you need this feature.

Embarassingly, Cris, I did not find my original post (or your reply), so that's why I rewrote this. Of course..stupidly...I found it first thing tonight!
Sorry for any confusion (and your lowered opinion of me!).

I started using BitDefender since version 9 until now, even I introduced to my company as corporate standard antivirus application with hundreds clients. However, as I have bought the TS 2008 and tried the upgraded from AV version 10 to 2008 in my XP Pro SP2 PC, I found that the unsolvable C++ runtime error really ###### me. This is not uncommon as refer the threads in this forum as it happens in many users with XP. Until this bug is solved, I can say the release of v.2008 is not successful due to this compatibility issue. I am now only be forced to downgrade to the v.10 in my XP PC to avoid this problem, and still avoid to upgrade other clients at my home to v.2008 while all they are using XP. The only two v.2008 I am using is one of my laptops and my son's PC with Vista. But this already wasted the money I paid for v.2008.

On the other hand, I dislike the interface of v.2008 which makes me feeling it is a copy of other AV products. In fact, the original design using for years is good enough and we all used on it.

It is funny that I found that I couldn't submit my edit of my original post with my logon, and it stated I have no permission. Interesting. wacko.gif

One more problem I encountered in v.2008 is the anti spam feature performed very poor. I observed many spam messages scored zero or in very low marks to allow it be classified as "Spam"; in contrast, even the anti-spam feature comes with my mail client immediately classified as "Spam". If the technologies are so advance as stated in v.2008 in anti spamming, I can't figure out why it performs such poor. I also reported this to technical support, but no solution available.

You were not allowed to modify you post because the time for edits is limited (I'm not sure what's exactly the limit, but it a few minutes).

About the AntiSpam... I used it a very long time ago and it was great. But I was forced to stop using it, because my current e-mail address uses secure ports to connect, and BitDefender doesn't support other ports than the standard POP3/SMTP.

Did you try to raise the level of the antispam protection? Also, you can use the Wizard to reset the engine and re-configure it based on the e-mails that you already have.
BTW, what e-mail client are you using?

Thanks for your response. I set it as aggressive. In fact, I am now downgraded to v10 to avoid the C++ runtime error so I cannot double check its configuration now. I am using Forte Agent.

I have the same problem and I am stuck. Is there anyone that solved this issue?
I couldn't find anything in the FAQ or Knowledge base and I didn't have luck getting hold of Bitdefender customer service.
Please help.

Hey guys, (HELP)

It frustrates me that with my first post on these forums that it would be a request for help but i assure you that to the best of my ability the favour would be returned. Im all googled out from searching this problem as i cannot seem to find the answer anywhere.

When Bit defender total security 2008 loads on boot, a white box appears that would show the buy, continue and register buttons on initial start up. Here is the issue, its blank i can't minimise it, close it or anything. its so frustrating.

Now I installed this program on another computer and it has had no problems. So it is a problem with my computer. The program will run, i can access the advanced settings tab but nothing else. If i choose to scan the computer for viruses, same deal. Blank box comes up for it.

Any ideas or further information you need to help me???

I have since purchased the product from this website and still no luck in fixing it.

XP sp2 dotnetfx 2.0
I had been successfully been running bit defender 9 prof, hence the reason for upgrading to 2008

Hey Niels,

i had found that before and it says loadlibrary("c:\program") failed- the specified module could not be found. I put in regsvr32 C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender2008\bdguictl.dll. (That file is there but i get the afore mentioned error??)

Niels i have uninstalled again then reinstalled and entered my 2 year registration number. I am still having the same problem. if i click about, i can see the process in task manager but it won't load, when i click fix all i get a blank screen then sometimes it crashes. When i go into advanced tab. every option is unpickable, i can go through the tabs but i can't turn anything on. when i click show i get a blank box come up.

what do i do??
Niels
Dear MEWSIK,

You have to change C: by the drive letter of your hard disc or partition were your programs are stored.
If that fails download dll.rar which you con download in this topic. The only difference now is that you have to right click on bdguictl.dll.

See if all BitDefender services are started:
Go to start, run, type services.msc into the run dialog box and see if all services that have BitDefender in the name are running (started).

Best regards

I have the same problem with the vsserv error too. When will this gonna be fixed? I know it has been awhile since last year. I'm really disappointed with this software now. I installed BD on Sat and yesterday the problem came out and freeze my computers 5 times and have to do a hard restart. And yes I said computers with a S, since I bought 2 copies of BD V 2008 for 3 PCs with 2 years licenses and isntalled to 5 computers at home. E-mailed to CS about this and I want refund, no reply whatsoever.

btw, the error message pop out even I was in WaMu (washington mutual) website to checking my bank account balance.

i'm running a registered version of bd 2008 on winxp pro sp2. everything works fine until i plug in my brand new ipod. sysinternals process explorer shows that the svchost for the bd threat scanner has skyrocketed to 100% cpu utilization. this problem only occurs when i plug in my ipod. this problem doesn't occur if the startup type of the bd threat scanner service is not set to "automatic".

please advise. thanks.

Well, nothing has improved since I posted my issues on Nov 11 2007, 04:20 AM, despite chasing Support. And I've seen other issues e.g. vsserv.exe taking up all the cpu regularly and Outlook being unable to retrieve email. I can't be bothered trying to find workarounds for Bitdefender any more - If the basics don't work out of the box, I have no confidence in the product.

I have other machines that have antivirus renewals coming up, so I'm going to evaluate other products. You can keep the money I wasted on Bitdefender - Put it towards hiring some Support staff.

Bitdefender keeps resetting the firewall rules. I'm running Internet Security 2008 on Windows Vista Ultimate. I've seen many posts on this subject, but have yet to see a solution. Sometimes, when I first boot the computer, one of the old profiles comes back, but most of the time, it's a new empty profile, and I've got to add applications all over again. We're not talking about unusual applications here, but stuff like Internet Explorer, Outlook 2007, Firefox, Mobile Sync, etc. Is there a fix expected for this problem? This is really frustrating and I'm thinking of going back to McAfee.

Hi all,

Been a BD user since V7 and even a small time reseller since V8. Until now, I've been, in general, pretty satisfied with the BD AV solutions. I witnessed some nice progress since V7 and although the business products seriously lack development, the Soho products had a nice price/value ratio.

I stumbled on this forum some time after I had installed V.2008 on all of my PC's (I just upgraded from V9 and V10 when I had to renew my licences)....seeking for help

To be able to give this comment, I even created this account. Softwin has in general (there were exceptions) always been pretty helpfull trying to solve my customer's issues, so I hope they appreciate my effort of posting this.

In short : I don't like it (V2008), for several reasons
1) the central screen even got me confused for a while (25 years ICT experience) while I was looking for the configuration settings...
2) all the other comments on the GUI, posted here
3) Most important, I suddenly had a snail PC. It took a while for me to kind of notice and, while totally confident in the BD product, was thinking about an imminent HDD crash or secretly installed services continiously accessing the disk and consuming vast amounts of memory. As a reflex, I even ghosted the disk and replaced it with a new one and got all my HDD tools at work in order to determine the cause.
4) Using my e-mail client became suddenly a gamble...will it connect, will it download and will it download everything, will it send, no knowing up front...unworkable

All to no avail.... then I made the link to the BD 2008 installation, got on the web and got here. Found a hint to downgrade to V10 so I used the uninstall kit, got rid of V.2008 and installed V10 (not after uninstalling and re-installing V2008 a few times - so don't go saying I maybe had a bad installation).

Hoeray, hoaray...all works fine now...I think that says enough

One regret though...although I read somewhere on this forum I could use my 2008 key in the V10 product...that does not seem to be true. I've got 30 days to figure out a workaround.

In the meantime...I'll wait for some patches and even for 2009 (old customers don't easily die ;-)). When things have not improved by then, Softwin will get the boot.

Unsatisfied! Lunch a scan but nothing happen! Doesn't recognise troyan I had in (Kaspersky and Panda Software scan on-line detected). Make me restart my laptop too many time because it seems not responds my imputs. Sometime the icon become grey colour and antivirus, firewall are disabled.

I always have had BD software but this seems to to have a lot of Bugs.

Moreover I told this kind of issue to Live Assistance but except unistall and re-install with specific tools they didn't tell me anything. I did it but nothing is changed.

bit defender has to many problems first it was slowing down my computer then a stupid popup can appearing saying your computer is protected. It would let me delete bitdefender saying it wasn't on my computer so i had to go in to the reg editor and delete it. Towards the end it said my registration was invalid. I say it need to fix the bugs in the program and also actually do something about the viruses.

Sorry if the sound like a jerk but i had too many problem's with it.

Also i had problem's with it when i first installed it.

Bottom line bitdfender serious needs some work on is new version.

I'm very sorry to tell that most of the problems I encounter on my PC are for 90 % connected to Bitdefender.
The attitude of Softwin towards some very old and knows issues is very disappointing.
That's actually my main problem !

1. The issue of the "BLOCK TRAFFIC" button has been going since years !!
In all versions there was some problem. Either the action was the opposite of what text was indicating. Now in the last version it does not even block traffic. This would not be so sad if developers would care about finding a cure, but nobody takes care about an issue which is going on for years !

2. The same attitude again with the problem of COPY/PASTE problem into Outloook/Outlook Express
Pasting results in pasting the BitDefender logo only instead of the text that was copied. It's getting on my nerves ! Nobody seems to care about the issue at Softwin. This is going on for years.

3. The "Wizard" in the add-on toolbar in Outlook (for automatic bug reports) does make reports but at the same time it closes Outlook if you try to use the wizard.

4. Microsoft did understand the stupidity of naming their Windows versions by the year. But Symantec continues naming products like winebottles 2005-2006-2007-2008 and so BitDefender now thinks that it is a god marketing idea. Instead of releasing "tested" products we get unfinished products with plenty of bugs because there is a deadline on the release date !

5. There is a common key shortcut used by both Bitdefender and ZTree : Alt-G
ZTree uses it for grafting a directory to another directory
BitDefender uses it for Game-mode. Maybe one of both can change their shortcut ? I would like Bitdefender to change it

6. Wish me luck using BitDefender's firewall ! It works, but what a mess to use !

7. We have plenty of romm on our screens and TFT displays ... why limit the BD windows size to a format where we cannot read the entire infomation without scrolling. Maximize a window is too difficult ?

8. Some services like bdagent.exe still do not know whether they should terminate normally or not.

Frankly what a waste of money Ive been using avk and spysweeper and never really had a problem but I figured Bitdefendered had good reviews and I would be able to run one program rather than 2.

Was I mistaken.

After 6 hours I got hit with an adware infection. Bitdefender made a limp attempt to stop it but basically let it infect my machine. After much rebooting and Bitdefender scanning nothing was happening. Reinstalled spysweeper and avk everything cleaned up like a dream within 15 mins.

After testing bitdefender later on a different machine on the 'non executed' infected files it couldnt see any of them.

Bitdefender WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP shouldnt of wasted my money (and saved hours of my time). Id love to know how much you bribed the magazines and testers who value your product so highly..............................................................
