Hello,

Since installing Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, I can't connect to Windows Live Messenger. I've tried every possible settings and given Messenger all the permissions I could, contacted Microsoft Live support and followed their instructions, applied the firewall connectivity patch like Bitdefender support suggested, all to no avail. The problem is almost certainly with Bitdefender, everything was fine when I was using v10.

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, what version of Windows are you using and what type of internet connection do you have (ADSL, Cable, do you have routers, etc)? Try to delete the rules for Messenger and let it ask you for access again, then allow it. If that doesn't work, try to reset your firewall profile and create rules all over again.

Hey Bluesprite,

Thanks for the response. I've tried doing both, it didn't work sad.gif
I'm using Windows Vista and an ADSL connection with a router. The port Live Messenger needs is open.
I have no idea what's going on....

Hello nevarine

So you did make a tcp and udp rule for windows live manager? Did you also select by traffic both?

Best regards

Hi Niels,

The first time it made a TCP rule itself. I've tried editing the rule to make it "Any", that doesn't work. Even shutting down the firewall doesn't work. I'm at a loss.

Thanks for your response

Hello nevarine

Have you disabled the vista firewall?

Try creating two separate rules. First press on the add rule icon uncheck apply rule for all application now browse to the installation folder of windows live manager. By protocol select tcp, action allow, check the option allow other computers to connect to this application. Press on advanced, direction both, source address any, ports and add these ports : 80, 443, 1863,7001,80, 443, 1863, network events select all press on ok. Make a same rule but choose for udp. Here you can find which ports you must add.
