I have chosen to use BD A/V 2008 as an on-demand scanner. Can I safely disable both xcommsvr.exe and vsserv.exe and still receive live updates and perform on-demand scans? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, if all you want is an on-demand scanner, better use free edition, v. 10, which is said to use the same antivirus engine. Check here
http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--...ee-Edition.htmlIf you want to use v. 2008 though, I think you should just disable the real time protection and not the services themselves.
Hope this helps.

Hello CogitoErgoSum
You can't stop the service xcommsvr.exe that service is needed to let features works. You can disable realtime protection but you will always get a pop-up. So if you need an on-demand scanner then I suggest also to use the free version that bluesprite mentioned.
