The Profos service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Today I installed BitDefender 2008. I receive the above error whenever I run a scan in the Event Viewer. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hello Warren

I suggest that you do this: go start, run, type devmgmt.msc press enter after that go to display/view, show/display hidden devices, now you will see a section that is called drivers that aren't plug and play compatible. Normally you must find profos with no yellow exclamation mark. Rightclick on it go to the drivers tab and see if started is enabled, and under start up type on demand must be selected press on ok to confirm.

But when I see it now it seems that the installation failed. I suggest that you rightclick both on profos and bdpredir and choose disable. Reboot your pc afterwards put in your installation cd-rom let it start and choose for repair. If you have only the download version just double click on it and choose also repair.

Thanks for your assistance. On reading your response, I decided to uninstall BitDefender 2008 utilizing the uninstall tool available on the BitDefender web site and then reinstall. After doing so, all issues disappeared. Thanks for all the help you give on these forums.

Hello nomercykocogi

What is the status of the profos service when you take a look in device manager?
I recommend that you use this tool to completely uninstall BitDefender when you can't change that status. Reboot your pc afterwards. Install BitDefender again.
