Today I installed BitDefender Antivirus 2008. Each time I reboot, I receive the following error message in my Event Viewer - System:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7026
Date: 9/5/2007
Time: 5:36:32 PM
User: N/A
Computer: WARREN-7RZ2A5ED
Description:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
bdpredir

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I am using Windows XP SP2.

Hello Waren

I suggest that you do this: go start, run, type devmgmt.msc press enter after that go to display/view, show/display hidden devices, now you will see a section that is called drivers that aren't plug and play compatible. Normally you must find bdpredir with no yellow exclamation mark. Rightclick on it go to the drivers tab and see if started is enabled, and under start up type system must be selected press on ok to confirm. After that go to start, run, type services.msc press enter. Check the status of each service that has BitDefender in the name it should be started and startup type must be set on automatic.

Best regards

I too have BD 2008 antivirus, and a check showed no Bdpredir drivers on my computer. But I do have a bdpredir.dll file in my BitDefender program files.
So my question is, is the bdpredir driver supposed to be installed ?
Niels
Hello leoliver

This file is needed if you are behind a proxy server for receiving the updates.
You can't just delete it. If you don't use the option under update then this module will not be loaded.

That module is needed for intercepting network traffic, it has nothing to do with the update.

Dear Berneanu Cristian

Sorry about that but I thought it was used for that purpose. I made a wrong conclusion after a read the brief explanation of it. I offer you my apologies. Thanks for the clarification.

So as long as I'm not scanning network traffic, it dosen't need to load ?
Niels
Hello leoliver

I think that it is used for http traffic scanning. So I would say that it isn't needed. But I am not 100 % sure about it.

Yes, http scanning uses it.

@Niels

No need for apologies smile.gif I think the original description may have been wrong.
Niels
Dear Berneanu Cristian

That information was written under the description section. I found it necessary to apologize. Because I don't want to give false information. That is what I did.

This is BD support's answear:

"The bdpredir driver is indeed in charge with BitDefender scanning most http
traffic. This ensures that your computer is always protected against malware
that is trying to infect your computer."
