What is the error that appears when you try to update manually?

Is your licence still valid? Are you using a different firewall then the BitDefender firewall? If so you must see that livesrv.exe has access to internet. You must allow it for incoming and outgoing traffic. You can dowload the updates also here. See here for the installation instructions.
