Hi BD noob here...
So I installed BDIS2008 on a mate's recommendation. I did a clean install of xp x64 as I upgraded my processor to Athlon64 X2 4200+ on an Abit KN8Ultra (NF4) with 1 Gig of Ram and Radeon X600, 250 Gig Sata HD and generic firewire card.
I did not install the Nforce firewall or IAM.
I installed the trial to see what it's like and I started getting the internet disconnection problem almost immediately. I have a look here on the forum so ok it's a known issue... I've tried the reset profile hack as above but no joy. Then I come to install the firewall patch and it throws out an error saying ver 11 needs to be installed and I'm like wtf??? So I double check to make sure 2008 IS ver 11 and I even tried exiting from the systray and even disabling the BD services but no joy.
I checked the event viewer and there's an error at each startup saying the bdselfpr couldn't be loaded because the system can't find the specified file...
So I'm assuming the patch doesn't work on the trial but I'm not paying out for the licensed copy until this issue's fixed....

The patch should work on the trial, as far as I know. The licensing mechanism has nothing to do with the firewall and patching it, it's more likely an issue with the registry or windows installer, or whatever it is that the patch checks to see what version is installed. Try to uninstall and reinstall BD 2008 and then run the patch. Also, update manually and reboot, because there have been some program updates released lately. If that doesn't work, contact Live Support on the website. I too would recommend to wait until issues are fixed, before you purchase a license.
A question to the guys at SOFTWIN - I wonder, is the patch suitable for both 32 and 64 bit versions of BD 2008?

I cannot get this patch to install using the 64-bit version of Internet Security 2008 on Vista x64 (it continually says that I need v11 installed). I have the nForce 680i SLI nVidia chipset but don't have NAM or the firewall enabled. Still I have complete loss of internet connectivity. Disabling BD 2008 or killing all processes does not restore connectivity. Only a complete uninstall allows me to access the net.

So since I applied the patch my network connection seems to be stable again. But unfortunately I now have problems with system crashes. These crashes seem to appear randomly, yet they only appear when there is heavy traffic on my broadband connection.
The result is a severe BSOD: I see the bluescreen and the system completely locks - no automatic reboot, no reaction to any button combination or to the power-off button whatsoever.
This behaviour only appeared after installing and patching IS 2008. Is there anyone else in this forum who suffers from the same stability issues?

Well I aint gonna hang around waiting for the patch to be patched...
Theres a fundamental issue here and if past experience is anything to go by just patching the product isnt going to be a viable fix. Think I will wait a year and see if its resolved with the 2009 release

I upgraded to 2008 from version 10 on my notebook and desktop. I have not notice a problem with notebook which has an Intel cpu and chipset, but my desktop is a different story. The desktop has an AMD cpu and a Nvidia chipset which my connection is cut off after maybe 10-15 minutes. The fix that was listed on the BitDefender website had no effect. Contacting technical support was no help, but did learn from the tech that BitDefender software has no bugs so I asked when would the non-bug issue be fixed (no answer). It's an amazing accomplishment to be the only retail software without a BUG, congrats to BitDefender.

That fix does not work for every one which was stated earlier.

Hello avarg5
It are now 2 separate patches that you have to apply. With other instructions you have to follow. The other was only 1 patch. Keep in mind that this is only a user forum and that all moderators are just volunteers who don't work for Softwin (BitDefender). If that still fails you have to contact support again.
Best regards
Niels

I've tried both patches and followed the instructions to the letter with no results. I've used tech support and I now I wait to they come back with a fix for the non-bug situaction. Niels I apologize if I came off has confrontational and I do realize the moderators do not work for SoftWin but it becomes really frustrating when tech support becomes non-existent at times. SoftWin has to be a bit more pro-active with fixing issues with new software.
