I called tech support on Thursday 8/23 upset at BD 10 and the BDMCon: A Resource is not available problem, they suggested installing BD11, and I did. I am using BitDefender Internet Security 2008 and after about ten minutes sometimes and maybe a couple of hours the Internet traffic stops and I cant get to my server connected to my network here at home. All ethernet traffic is completely stopped. I have uninstalled the ethernet drivers and reinstalled and updated and still the same problem. I still have this problem.

Windows XP 2005 Media Center all updates
Outlook 2007 and Office 2007
Utorrent
These Programs are on all the time

Hardware, Asus A8n Mobo, nvidia 4 chipset, amd 4800+, 2gb memory, Nvidia video card 6800GT: latest Nvidia chipset and video drivers

Does anyone else have this problem?

This problem had from version 10 and it only execute with BitDefender Internet Security. I contacted with support team last year but to now have no fix. I think driver (file .sys) of BitDefender block internet when it is crashed.

@ Jeff B : You need restart computer when internet connection is error.

Yes, I also have this problem (posted in Workstation section).

The suggestion, by Crem, to restart the PC works, but only for a short while.

Um i'ved recently experienced something simillar with BD AV Plus v10:when i close all BD related exe-s with Task manager my internet goes crazy,i can't visit any website dued to high lag so i need to restart. If u ask yourself why would i close all BD services, well cause i have a weak CPU(1,5 GHz overclocked)and i need the extra juice for some programms smile.gif .So is there a fix or could it be just a nice lil worm like worm blaster that messes up the internet connection?
Cheers!

@PS:could it be caused by the settings of BD like Protection level set to max and all other modules?I'll try setting them to Default and i'll give feed back right da way smile.gif .
No it ain't dat sad.gif .

You can always try this instead of rebooting your pc: go to start, make connection, show all connections, rightclick on your internet connection and choose repair. This is a temporary solution that you can try. Post also more details what kind of connection, router manufacturer, network card, driver version,etc...

Niels
Jeff B
Yes I have tried the repair method also. The only new program I have installed in the last two or three weeks is Bitdefender 2008 and it started happening that same day. A couple of other programs that I use all the time are:

Utorrent 1.7.2
Cloudmark antispam for Outlook 2007
Active Sync 4.5 for a Treo 700
Webroot Spysweeper

I restart the computer and everything seems fine for ??? Last time I tried to reply the ethernet connection stopped and I lost all the posting and have to start over again. If it happens this time I will copy to a word doc and repaste after reboot. I am wondering if using Utorrent and the program just crashes and instead of the program closing and having to restart again, they just stop all traffic and make you reboot to get things right. This odveously as design program flaw with BitDefender 2008 Internet Security.

When the tech suport guy said that we could try BD 2008 to try to fix your problem he wasn't to optomistic, he admitted that they have had lots of issues with the program. I think many people will be having this problem soon. Maybe the program has a problem with Nvidia chipsets and mobos based on the chipset drivers. Maybe there should be a warning: doesn't work with nvidia chipset or Display drivers or Bitorrent clients. That would really boost sales!!

My connection is still up, so here is the upload, maybe

I have gone back to Version 10 again, as it is just not feasible to reboot/repair every 10 minutes or so. I can reinstall to test specific procedures, but until then it's V10 for me!

My PC details are:

Athlon 4200 x2 CPU
KN8 Ultra Motherboard (NForce 4)
Nvidia network card NForce 4 Ethernet controller. Driver version 60.2.4.0

Windows XP Pro SP2. Windows update is set to auto. Account is part of admin group.

Bluetooth Network (Widcomm Bluetooth Software 5.1.0.1700... used for Skype earpiece). Skype is configured to NOT start with windows.

20mbit Cable connection with Buffalo Wireless Router (router and connection work for other PCs on network). Affected PC is using wired connection.

Hope that helps!
Andrew Taran
Similar that BitDefender series 2008 really does not work with chipset from nVIDIA.

At me such configuration: the processor-DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2500 MHz 4800 +; mainboard Abit KN9 nVIDIA nForce 570 SLI, AMD Hammer; Video: nVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCI-E; Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64; House local network + ADSL gate.

On by that that network connection vanishes, at me the disk defragmentation in BitDefender Total Security and process of removal of the program, both BitDefender Total Security 2008 64-bit, and BitDefender Internet Security 2008 64-bit hangs. With 32-bit versions on chipset from Intel while all works normally.

To me not to like Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 and 7.0, but they all the same work with Windows Vista Business 64. I ask you to correct above listed errors in the near future, I do not wish to buy Kaspersky Internet Security, but bases of protection against viruses, I too cannot long remain.

Hello to all who uses a nvidia board

The firewall of nvidia could be the problem which is included on nvidia boards. What I read you should remove your chipset drivers reboot your pc but during installation do not install network access manager and/or the firewall.

Hello Niels,

I do not have (and never have had) the network access manager or the nVidia firewall installed.
mihai_romanian
Um i do have nVIDIA GPU,but the part with "do not install network access manager and/or the firewall" is new to me.Could you offer more explinations on how to do it,like a tutorial or something?
Anyways thanks for pin pointing the problem,i actually had no idea that nVIDIA drivers have a firewall.....my thoughths went to Net framework 3 and the drivers for my network card(since i have cable connection with PPPOE protocol) but i guess the drivers for da GPU might be the culprit.
Cheers!

PS:if the network acces and the firewall are parts of the drivers couldn't we just Disable them from Local services or something?
Niels
Hello Cadire

Thanks for mentioning it. The reason why I suggested is that the nvidia firewall can cause this kind of behaviour.

Regards
Niels

Hello mihai_romanian

I don't have an nvidia based motherboard. But you can always take a look at the running services by doing this: start, run, type services.msc press enter and take a look at services with network manager or nvidia firewall in the name. I don't think that the videocard drivers also include nvidia firewall.

I also have an nvidia video card, but the drivers does not include a firewall, at least in my case.
So i think Niels is right.

Hello all,

I experienced the same problem with v2008. I use an nForce 4/AMD mainboard, and I needed to revert to v10 to get my connection reliable again.

v2008 runs well on my intel based laptop.

If this issue really is nForce related Softwin should be quite motivated to find a quick solution...
mihai_romanian
In your cases it is clear dat u have to reinstall the chipset drivers and uncheck the firewall and NAM while installing. In my case i have a rather old motherbord from ECS so i do not have those drivers installed.Guess something else might cause the problem.
Cheers!
Jeff B
My Motherboard (Asus A8N) does have the Nvidia 4 Chipset for Amd Processors. I have never installed the Nvidia firewall with the chipset drivers knowing that I will be using a third party firewall like Bitdefender or Zonealarm.

I have emailed Bitdefender twice and tried to use the live support with no success. I waited for 20 minutes on live assistance hold before the time ran out and I was kicked. Bitdefender seems to have a design flaw with the ethernet connection and software code. I keep thinking that Outlook 2007 and Active Sync are part of the problem. It seems when Outlook 2007 is open and My Treo 700 hooked up with Active Sync the problems start sooner than later.

Hope they fix the problem soon. I will probably reinstall version 10 and deal with BDMCON: a required resource is not available problem instead of taking down my whole ethernet connection and Network.

The nVidia firewall/NAM is not installed on my dual core nForce 4 AMD system. Yet the problem occurs.

I have the same issue, and i have nvidia chipset, with an amd dual core...

I also dont have the friewall installed.. But this issue is SO ANNOIYNG, and i hope can be fixed soon

Hi
With all due respect, I think that we should not have to be doing tricks for installing the software. It should be straightforward. Next thing we might be asked to strip our computer bare to be able to install BitDefender. So in my opinion this is not good enough. I reverted to Antivirus Plus ver 10 but the sad part is that my licences expire in 20 days.
And the saddest part is that I cannot renew AntiVirus Plus 10 which was running well till now. I am forced to upgrade to the FAULTY Bitdefender Internet security 2008.
Looks like what made Bitdefender different from the others is now no longer valid. This is a shame.

No Answers or response to this problem. I am uninstalling BitDefender 2008 and reinstalling Version 10. The problems in Version 10 are manageable, the problems in BitDefender 2008 make the program unuseable

Hello myarmando

2 firewalls have a very high chance to cause conflicts. That isn't only the case with Softwin's BitDefender solutions. I am only a volunteer so I don't work for Softwin. I just wanted to give possible temporary solutions you can try.

Niels

I will ask how far they already are for fixing the issues. People of Softwin do monitor this forum but most of the time they aren't logged in.

Go to the firewall section, traffic, reset profile, choose trusted network or direct connection let autodetect zones enabled press on ok.

Does not work for me. The connection still is lost within minutes.
Niels
Hello mihai_romanian

That is only for BitDefender Internet Security 2008. BitDefender Antivirus 10 doesn't have a firewall. To do that in BitDefender Internet Security 10 you have to do this open BitDefender go to firewall, traffic, reset profile, follow the steps again and select trusted lan and press on ok.

Niels

Hello

Go to the zones section press on the add button select network. You have to enter the ip-address to obtain that kind of information do this go to start, run,at the run dialog box type cmd press enter after that type
ipconfig /all press enter. What you find after ip-address you have to enter after ip-address and after mask what you find after subnetmask. If you are not in a network select computer. Or you can select the option browse local network and select your network press on add.Select trusted and press on ok.

Keep in mind that I am only a volunteer.

Hi Niels
Thanks for your reply. I did not mean to offend you. But in my case I am not using BitDefender firewall, but only the Windows one.
And 2008 was not working for me. At this point in time I will stick with Antivirus Plus Ver 10.
So we all hope they come up with a solution to the problem,
All the kudos to you for helping out while not working with Softwin.

Hi,

This is really frustrating - I just purchased Bitdefender Total Security 2008 but I am haivng the same issue. My interenet connection freezes / is dropped within minutes of starting up any downloading tool.

Is there any resolution to this yet?

Thanks,

Nick

I also want to know if it is fixed already sad.gif , i want to upgrade to v11 !!

Well, I had some problem with my connection and I solved it by adding my ADSL modem to the trusted zone. What kind of internet connection do those of you with problems have?
Glowworm
I also have this problem with BitDefender Internet Security 2008. Connection drops within minutes.
I have an AMD dual core 6000+, MSI K9N Platinum with an Nvidia chipset.
The only way I can get a stable connection is to uncheck the "Bitware Firewall NDIS Filter Driver" from my Network controller properties. I need my firewall! Please fix it.
Frans
My system

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
1gig ram
Asus M4N2-SLI (with nvidia chipset)

And running Windows XP Professional 32bit English

and my connection also drops withing a few minutes..

I'm having a Speedtouch 546 router/modem..
Feisty
I have recenently tried BD IS 2008, as it seemed like a nice security package for 64bit Windows XP

I can confirm i have this issue too.
Definatly seems to mainly affect PC's with nForce chipsets...

Perhaps a compatibility issue with the Nvidia network bus enumerator in the device manager?

Anyway, Will be monitoring this thread for news on any updates...

System spec:

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (nForce 570)
Athlon X2 5000+
2x 7600GT
2GB Ram
WinXP Pro x64 Edition (all latest drivers/service packs, fixes ect...)
Feisty
bluesprite,

As far as internet connection goes, i'm connected to a netgear firewall router, which is connected to a cable modem.
All via ethernet.
I did add my LAN connection to the safe zone strait after installing Bitdefender, then about 15mins later, all the internet stopped responding as has been described earlier in this thread...

All works fine with the windows firewall, and previous firewalls on 32bit windows. Would seem unlikely that my hardware is the problem, Seems more to do with a problem in the Bitdefender firewall driver itself...

I tried to do an uninstall while Bitdefender had the internet lockup... it got stuck... (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and all got a bit messy... I had to reinstall and quickly uninstall again to get the software removed...

If anyone is trying to temporarily remove Bitdefender, it may be advisable to try the uninstall while your internet still works. It seems the network/firewall drivers wont uninstall when the internet has crashed.

Thanks,

Feisty
Frans
i had the same problem with that feisty. I used the uninstall tool.

Hello you all,
Just join't this forum for the same problem, had several problems upgrading from AV Plus 10 to BD Internet Security 2008 on my new 2007 PC.
At first : psapi.dll was lost, no startup from IE7 and several programs. Was able to fix this (more in other threads).
Now losing internet connection within 4-6 minutes. Tried it with only Windows Firewall and BD Firewall disabled, problem persisted.
Just tried it with BD complete shut-down for PC Security ands Network Security, problem persisted.

With all this losing connections my Windows freeses, only way to re-animate is power-off.
These problems were with Outlook 2003, IE7 and Newsleecher 3.8 Final. My system is Win Xp, completely up to date.

Will go for the problably working option I read before, uninstalling (thanks for the tip to do it very fast...) and returning to AV Plus V10. (typing this from my second 1999 Dell 550 Mhz PC, which, can't explain, works bug-free with Internet Security 2008)......? :-)
I'm very disappointed that BD makes an attractive Internet Security 2008 (more options then AV Plus v10) but can't garantee it's bugfree.... :-((
marensan
Well, I'm back to AV Plus 10....again psapi.dll went corrupted during this action....

Remedy : first copy the original one from windows/system32, after the original is corrupted rename that one (other actions Windows doesn't allow) and copy back the saved copy.
Good Luck with this, should be, unneccesary actions.....:-(
