Since I bought Bitdefender IS 10 about a month ago, I continiously experience system errors saying that vsserv.exe stopped working after updating Bitdefender. I'm aware that there is a (pinned) posting on the forum that mentions this problem. However, this posting dates from 1 month ago, and states that a solution was under development at that time. One month later, there is still nothing. I wonder whether this is the development speed for fixing bugs at Bitdefender. Therefore, I would like to know what is the planned timing for this fix. The license of Bitdefender that I bought was valid for all home PC's. On my 2 other home PC's (of the kids), I used to have NAV, and the subscription period of NAV expired over the weekend. So I planned to replace NAV by Bitdefender, but if this problem is not solved, and there is no indication when the issue will be fixed, I intend to install something else as security package on those PC's. Thanks for providing an update with an expected resolution time for this annoying bug. Kind regards.

Hello icpjas
Take a look at this topic:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...7&hl=vsservThis is more a vista bug than a BitDefender problem. Here to prove that isn't only Softwin related:
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=101621You can try also this to get rid of these messages:
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htmor if you want to only disable it for administrator accounts do this:

Hello Niels,
Thanks for your reaction. Unfortunately, I don't feel like it helps restoring my confidence in the Bitdefender product. To me it appears that Bitdefender is not at all Vista compatible, despite their claim of the opposite. None of the other applications running on my PC have the same problem. Also the reference that you included to demonstrate that it is actually not a Bitdefender but a Windows problem is not what I understand from this document. I understand that the software vendor for the other product that had a similar issue actually solved it. Bitdefender on the contrary is not solving it, despite their announcement that they would do so. Some more research on the web and on this forum revealed to me that the bug is actually known already for a very long time. Also the recommendation to disable UAC to get rid of the error messages is not what I actually want to do, certainly not on the kid's PC's (apart from the fact that - IMO - it doesn't prevent the error messages from popping up). One may argue endlessly whether one likes UAC in Vista or not, but I believe it is a good step in securing PC's of computer novices like my kids. Therefore, I don't consider it as a solution that I have to disable this OS security feature to solve a clear bug in the PC's main security application. All these problems just add to the previous issues that I encountered already with BD in relation to the 'sockspy.dll' issue. To solve this, I followed other recommendations that I found on this forum and the web, i.e. renaming this file, but this disables the firewall, and according to some other sources also the e-mail virus scanning. Here too, there is no structural solution available from Bitdefender for this problem. All this makes me really question why somebody should install such buggy software, if one has to disable lots of other features (both internally the software itself, and in other areas) in order to make this Bitdefender software 'work'.
Kind regards.

Lol @ the shabby so called "temporary fix". It should work. I know it, all the other customers know it, it should work out of the box. I have never had so many issues with a software from the start. Then they blame Vista, no, you need to jump on the bandwagon and code it for Vista. We shouldn't have to do anything but install the software and do the updates.
"This is more a vista bug than a BitDefender problem."
As I said before, it isn't Vista's problem! The operating system sets the standards, and the companies that wish to run on Vista need to follow suit. If you can't code for it, don't sell for it. My "previous" antivirus worked fine on XP, and then perfect on Vista. So it can't be too difficult. Blaming Vista is a cop-out.
Telling users to disable features or to basically just hide the message is wrong. As I said, I give this product one week before I give it to the kid down the road or something. Im sure he could make something cool with it. I may make home-made lightening with it in the microwave.
I have the UAC turned off, have since I installed Vista, and I still get this error. Over 1 month for a serious software incompatability is outrageous.
Oh well, I am sure Bitdefender has already lost tons of customers from these issues, what will one more hurt?

i too have this problem, here on vista HP.
whether or not its a vista problem or not, bitdefender need to sort this problem out with microsoft, as bd cant be selling a product with a flaw like this.
lets all hope it gets fixed, as it can be annoying, usually everyday.

Hello Shudogg
I am not a developer or working for Softwin. I am only a volunteer who tries to give solutions in the meantime when a fix is released. Only the people who has BitDefender or super moderator are working for Softwin. I am only trying to help people with the knowledge I have.

Hello Tierix
I recommend that you test your memory on faults. Read
this and follow all the instructions. What is the result?
If there aren't any errors reported then try this go to start,programs,Softwin,BitDefender2008 Internet Security choose repair.

Thank you for your answer. I tried both already. Repair does absolutely nothing and the memory test said nothing is wrong!!!

Hello Tierix
It could be that there are some problems with your virtual memory. Virtual memory is a place that is reserved to expand your internal memory which is located on your hard disc. If some part got corrupted and windows places a process or program on that location you can get such an error message. Follow these instructions to clear your virtual memory (= page file/swap file): go to start,my computer, right click on my computer, choose properties, advanced, performance, settings, advanced, virtual memory (swap file/ page file) change/adjust,no virtual memory/(=page file, swap file) confirm by pressing on apply. Reboot your pc go to the same location but choose let windows manage the virtual memory and confirm by pressing on apply.

I did Neils! Thanks again for that. But a few hours after that, Bitdefender downloaded a new version of the program (which again generated errors, but worked after I rebooted). So now, I haven't had that error message again yet, but don't know 1. if it will appear again and 2. if it's because of the new version of because of the fact that I purged the virtual memory file.
Although now, I have problems with the automatic update that doesn't work!!!!! that will never end it seems....
But thanks again Neils for your hard work, I really appreciate. I'm gonna wait another 2 weeks to see if I get the error message again. If not, we can consider matter closed.
Bye.

Hello Tierix
After an large update you must always reboot your pc even when BitDefender didn't inform you about that. In this case it was due the new version.
You must see if the server is
http://update.bitdefender.com if not change it. Or post the error message you receive when trying to update.
Best regards

Hello Niels,
Hope you had a great week-end.
I tried everything and I still did not get any vsserv.exe error message, but now it still doesn't want to update itself!
There's no error message, but in the Bitdefender Security Center (when you double click the icon in the taskbar), there's a critical alert in the "security center" tab and it says there haven't been any update in more than 1 day.
The Automatic update is checked, I uninstalled (properly, with the uninstaller), I reinstalled but still doesn't work! It does update the first time right after I reinstall, but then it stops working. Again, no error messages.
Both update servers are:
http://update.bitdefender.comI use no proxy...
Have an idea please? My version of soft is in my signature.
Thanks again!

Put
http://upgrade.bitdefender.com as primary and
http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com as alternative update servers. Or just reset to default update settings. The update.bitdefender.com server isn't working for me either at the moment. I'm under the impression that it's for the old version, and you've upgraded to 2008 now.

YES, for now it works! THanks very much! I was told earlier to change from upgrade to update because upgrade were the old servers!!! lol
I'll stick with these now.. hope it will continue to work fine.
Thanks again

Hello Tierix
The reason why is because people in the beginning couldn't reach the update server which was by default upgrade.bitdefender.com. Check
this page of a topic So it's indeed strange. Or it must be fixed during a product upgrade.

Still no vsserv.exe error Neils so thanks for that!
But it still does not update correctly even after the changed made! Now, the whole "Update" section is greyed, I can't even change anything, even if I restart the software.
I think it works when I use this:
http://download.bitdefender.com/updates/bi...ender_2008/x86/I say I think because after running this weekly.exe file, the automatic update was up and running again, but it didn't show the date and time of the update when I ran the weekly.exe file.

Would you please have another great idea? Is there anybody else who has that problem with the same version of mine please (see my signature)?
THANK YOU!

Hello Tierix
I am only a volunteer. So I don't work for Softwin (BitDefender).
Press the win+r (windows button together with r) type services.msc press enter. The BitDefender Update service should has the started status. If not leftclick on it and press on start.
