Hello,

I've recently bought BD AV 2009 after checking some reviews and trying the online scanner, but now I can't say I'm really impressed by the product's performance... The vsserv module takes up 140MB of memory to run, plus the scanning process takes more than 8 hours to complete ! Granted, I've got close to 700GB of files, but still, that's very long, compared to previous AV's I've had.

Still, that's not what I want to start this thread about...

I've got Comodo Firewall 3.0 installed and it has served me quite well as another line of defense against various software threats. It's got this nice feature where it checks every running process against a cryptographic signature if you've OK'd it before to see if it's been changed. Of course, this sort of thing gets tripped every time the AV updates its modules ! So they have another nice feature, where you can add trusted software vendors to a whitelist.

But there's the catch ! To add a software vendor to that list, you must use (quite rightly) a digitally signed executable ! I asked BD support for this after Xmas, and they acknowledged that BD's modules are not signed, something that seems extremely strange for a security company that should not want its applications to be tampered with and should provide a digital certificate that can authenticate their provenance and integrity.

So I'd like to ask, both for my convenience, and for others' and as a piece of mind thing, BD, will you please start signing your applications ?

Thanks

Upon further investigation, I found that the various drivers the AV installs to hook into the system and do its job, are indeed signed (as BitDefender LLC), so BD already has a proper digital certificate. It's just that not all the modules are signed using that certificate. That should not be a hard thing to do now...

It's been a week and I see no activity on this thread...

Is anybody at BD reading these posts ? Would they care to reply, or even comment ?
