After updating my bitdefender av plus v10 to v 10.247 my windows mobile device unable to sync properly
The device would connect properly, but the sync function locked up. sad.gif

I tried to uninstall bitdefender and re-install it from a fresh download, during installation I make sure that the installation didn't update it self through the internet at least until i tried my activesync, and as I expected my activesync works perfectly again. laugh.gif

So I did the update afterwards and restart my machine, bit defender shows it is version 10.247 and my mobile device unable to sync properly again.

there is another thread in other forum about this as well wink.gif

Any idea to deal with this? sad.gif

Do you also have problems with your internet connection?

See:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=88
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=103

See if the solution offered in the second link fixes the problem temporarily. If that works, then these problems are related.

I don't have any solutions/suggestions (it works just fine to me), but since there are many complains about this it seems to be a problem with one of the latest updates.
Because of this, I hope, soon, one of the BitDefender Officials will offer some solutions.

To help BitDefender solve this issue, could you provide some other information, like:
  • do you have installed other security applications?
  • what OS do you have?
  • what's your PC's hardware configuration?
and other things that you think might help.

Hi andybing

Did you tried to make or remake a new rule in the firewall? So that BD firewall will allow the incoming traffic. Open BitDefender go to firewall, traffic, add rule. You can specify which ports must be opened or you can select each port the same you can do for the ip addressess. By traffic select both traffic. You must made rules for these programs : Wcesmgr.exe Wcescomm.exe Rapimgr.exe You will find them in X:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\ change X by the letter that is assigned to your harddisk where windows is installed on.

Niels:

Yeah, i've tried that as well. I've re-added all four executable under c:\program files\microsoft activesync\ into my bitdefender firewall rule with tcp and udp allowed for both way communications, even tried turning off my firewall.. still unable to sync. sad.gif
I always got my windows mobile device connected, it is just that I cant do any sync with my microsoft outlook 2003.
Transfering data or installing application still works though

Cris:

my rig : intel core 2 duo, asus p5wdh deluxe mobo, 2 gig ram, HD 300 gb
I'm running microsoft windows xp pro oem with sp2
I have :
spybot search and destroy, but it only run on demand.
webroot spysweeper, but it only run on demand.
windows defender, running in background

I tried the second link temporary solution, and it worked. I have renamed bdpredir.dll and bdpredir.sys to something else, restart my pc and everything worked!

So it seems that the culprit is BitDefender Proxy Redirector Interface, and yes I confirmed that it is related to http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=103 issue! laugh.gif

Will this workaround affect the security of my system?

I don't know. I have no idea how it works, but I suppose it has an effect (possibly a negative effect) on security.

I don't have this problem. It seems it only affected some computers.

Keep watching this topic: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=103
A BitDefender Support Member replied there (Carmen). You should follow her instructions, and maybe you (all who have this problem) will have a solution soon.

Thanks Cris,

Yesterday I've downloaded the newest build of bitdefender AV plus, so i planned to do a re-install of the antivirus. Who knows it might solve the activesync issue without renaming "bdpredir.dll"

Uninstallation process went easy and smooth, then I restart my machine.
Then I install the new downloaded setup file, it went smooth as well. After a restart, that's when the horror comes!!

I was prompted with "Procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library. PSAPI.DLL" from my windows search and remote controller driver are loading.
When I go and check my Services, nothing is listed there and my windows is behaving somewhat strange! ohmy.gif

Been trying to find solutions from google on this error msg, alot of forum says it is due to IE7 beta or there are multiple copies of "PSAPI.dll" in your hard drive. The workaround is to rename the additional copies of "PSAPI.dll" to something else and keep the original in "c:\windows\system32\" .
Upon searching for "PSAPI.dll", I only have one copy sitting in "c:\windows\system32\"!
I've been using IE7 for months now, and it never gives me any problem.

So to re-try this issue, i have my handy backup image file on the OS partition ready. Within minutes, my system is up and running again.

After making sure that there are no problem with my system, I did a defrag, restart, running some application and finally another restart of my system before I re-install bitdefender.

Guess what! It happens again, same error message on the "PSAPI.DLL". I even tried restoring from my image file again and re-install it again for the last time! Definitely the new setup files is causing wreck to my system.

Using my old bitdefender installation file works fine though! So I’ve been using that and updated it(of course i'm still having issue with the activesync, have to rename "bdpredir.dll" to make it work)

Any idea on the "PSAPI.dll"? Anyone experiencing the same issue?? can anyone confirm this?
Cris
I have no idea what could be wrong... I think you just have to wait until one of the Moderators answer you. Sorry.

I am having the same issue.

Activesync and bitdefender were working fine and then bitdefender asked to update and I updated it.

After that activesync would say 'syncronizing' but never move beyond that point. I tried various devices and dock cable and finally uninstalled bitdefender (simply disabling it didn't work.) After bitdefender was uninstalled I booted and activesync worked fine.

I then reinstalled bitdefender and activesync still worked.

A few hours later bitdefender asked to update and after I did it activesync again did not work. huh.gif

There must be some problem with the new version of bitdefender and activesync.
Can someone please help!!! sad.gif

Please wait for an update that will fix that problem.

Search for the file bdpredir.sys in Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Firewall and rename it to something else then reboot. An update is coming soon!

Do you have any idea when the update will be provided? It's been more than a week since I could update my pda.

You can download here patch for the activesync problem : http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB340-en--BitDef...ActiveSync.html

I wonder why this patch isn't just part of the automatic update....maybe it is but we could get it faster this way. I undid the work around before I ran the patch. I was curious if the patch did the work around. It did not do the work around. It fixed the conflict with Activesync 4.5 without renaming that one file. I'm happy! Bitdefender support is 100% better than Symantec/Norton support.
Niels
Hi Randy J

It could be that the patch is applied with the automatic updates but you can't verify it. Because it's possible that Softwin only give the chance for people who suffer that issue to manually download the patch. I am not related to BitDefender.

Since this page, and therefore the associated patch, no longer exists on the BitDefender site, is it safe to assume that this patch was incorporated into the latest set of updates?

(I asked this in a thread in the General forum, but am posting it again here since this thread directly references the problem with ActiveSync. Sorry for the cross-posting.)
Cris
Hi garyinri,

Yes, this patch was included in the BD Product Update released on 8 May.
