Full Version: Vista System Restore Disables Antivirus 2009

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1.

After I complete a System Restore in Windows, BitDefender AntiVirus 2009 announces that it has encountered an error with a file in C:\Windows\Temp and can't run. The BitDefender icon in the Notification Area becomes grey. It's impossible to do an update, because Windows Security announces that it doesn't trust the program.

Other people are reporting on the internet that they are encountering the same problem. It seems that BitDefender 2009 is not capable of working after a Vista System Restore.

My solution for running System Restore is:

Uninstall BitDefender
Run the System Restore
Reinstall BitDefender

If anyone has found a different solution I'd like to know, but to me, this looks like a programming error.
I have written BitDefender technical support about this problem.

Not just Vista. I have the exact same problem with Internet Security 2009 and Windows XP. I have been changing some components in my PC and installing drivers, etc. So a couple times I have decided to do a system restore as the best solution get back to a previous state. Every time I do a system restore I get the same kind of warning you mention upon restart and the only solution is to use the removal tool, totally remove Bitdefender and then do a fresh install. 3 times already myself.

Bitdefender comes with high reviews. I have had it for 3 years now. No problems like this before the 2009 edition for me.... frustrating.

Well I didn't experience this with 2008 on a machine I was working on. I know it wasn't 2009, which the thread talks about.

I had to do a system restore on a XP machine with BD 2008 and even thought BD2008 was attacked and disabled by a virus, after a system restore ( which I had to do to even get into windows) I was still able to limp BD2008 along with its processes working enough to protect and scan the computer and remove enough to allow XP to stabilize slightly. BD was able to turn on some realtime scans after it supplied me with a "fix it" button. This was the one and only one way I could enable BD realtime scans after the attack. This is a life saver option BD has included in the program.

Ended up installing 2009 because a virus should have a much harder time disabling it compaired to 2008 which is not as secure. Atleast the last time I knew.
