I recently upgraded to AV2008 from AV10. I am running build 11.0.17. Running WinXP Home SP3.
I thought this version seemed to have less of an impact on my system than AV10, and to my horror I found out why. The real-time protection module, bdss.exe, is not running and does not exist on my machine! I saw that the BitDefender Scan Server service was not running so I attempted to start it. I receive a message that "the system could not find the path specified". It apparently is looking for "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\bdss.exe". That folder does not exist on either of the machines that I have AV2008 installed on. I then scanned the Program Files folder for bdss.exe and found no matches. Was this a known issue with AV2008? I tried to find something about it in the forums but did not see anything specifically related to this issue. I am going to have to uninstall BD and install another AV for the time being because not having an on-access scanner concerns me. My license is due to expense in less than 3 weeks and this has giving me reason to consider whether or not I want to renew it or move on to something else. Thank you. -Gary |
