Bitdefender Internet Sec 2008 And Laptops Options

Hello - currently evaluating BDIS 2008 on both a desktop and laptop - have already bought the product, but not opening the box till I am sure, as most of the other AV products are just plain yucky to use user interface wise - the more "standard windows, with options" the happier I am - and so far things are looking good.

My question is on laptop / wireless use. When the laptop is at home, it would have (secure) wireless access to a secure zone inside our firewall / router. In that case, we want pretty open access from the laptop firewall standpoint.

When the laptop travels to Starbucks, however, I want it to sense it is on a different network, and automatically apply a differnt profile. This is something Norton (but not all others) does - the BD do anything similar?

Each wireless network is untrusted by default. For a local support you need to navigate to the firewall section press on the zones tab double click on the entry of your local network and change it to trusted. Normally whe you didn't change the default settings BitDefender firewall will automatically create a zone for each newly detected network. But sometimes you need to make a rule in the zones section.

Actually, not really (at least, I noticed something else).

A Wi-Fi network is considered "unsecure" by BD if it's not protected by a password/encryption. But when using a secured network (with a password), BD automatically creates a Trusted Zone for it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)


Also, to answer Chuck's question: BitDefender Firewall creates multiple fw profiles, depending on the IP class and Gateway that you use (this applies to cable connection and to Wi-Fi). This means that if you change the Gateway and/or the IP class, BD will create a new profile and ask you to re-allow/deny the applications that require access.
Also, when returning to a previous network (like when you come back home), BD will apply the same profile that you had (so it remembers all profiles and applies them when necessary, depending on the IP/Gateway combination).

I am also confused in using BDIS 2008 on my laptop, tough i've started using it on my desktop without any problem however due to wireless network on laptops i've not yet started using my laptop. Is it secured when working on laptops?

What exactly do you mean "is it secured"?

I'm using BD on my laptop since a year ago (since I bought my laptop) and never had problems. Wi-Fi connections work just fine.
