After an auto-update of BitDefender Internet Security 2008, the product shut it self down. When I tried to relaunch any of the suite's executables, I got an error saying the executable is not a valid Win32 application.
At the direction of BitDefender support, I ran the uninstall tool, then downloaded and attempted to reinstall. Now, halfway through the install, I get an error saying... "Error writing to file bdfsfltr.sys. Verify that you have access to that directory." I have uninstalled, rebooted, and attempted to reinstall 8 times with no luck. I went out and purchased a tool called System Mechanic to verify that the problem was not my system or hard-drives. Not only did the tool give me a clean bill of health, but it told me that my system was secure because it was CURRENTLY protected by BitDefender, which it believes is still installed and running. BitDefender support is unable to help me further. I may have to purchase Panda or something. Has anyone had similar problems in the past? I used PCTool's Spyware Doctor to remove the Bagel virus that disabled BitDefender Internet Security and fooled the BitDefender into thinking BitDefender was still installed and protecting the system.
BitDefender support—as well as BitDefender's online forum—was of no help whatsoever. When I remaining 301 days of my license are done, I promise I will not renew or recommend a BitDefender product again! |

Hello Sherlock,
No Antivirus product has 100% malware detection, and BitDefender is included in this category. As far as I can remember, BitDefender installer asks you to make an online scan before installing the product. Maybe if you would have done that, you wouldn't have needed to use another product. But this is only a supposition... Cris. |

Same problem here. However I scanned the file ahead of time that gave me the virus, WITH bitdefender and it came up clean. My machine is now a mess and I can't get bitdefender installed back on. This stinks.

I was not able to install any virus software, nor reboot in safe mode. I finally got AVG to install and it found some nasty ones. bagles and worms. Another one called flec006.exe I got rid of them but AVG keeps finding new ones popping up. So I'm assuming I still have someting going on. Neverous to try installed bitdefender again. It missed a big virus and now I don't trust it. (EVen though I've paid for 4 copies.) |

Wish I could. Since my virus issues I cannot run Hijackthis. I've downloaded several versions. Each one tells me "...Hijackthis.exe is not a valid win32 application."

No luck. I renamed the zip, then the exe install file, then the exe run file. I downloaded 3 other versions of hijackthis on the web and renamed the zip file. 2 of the 3 wont even let me install. I get the same message. The other one after renaming, gives me the same message and won't run. This is one nasty virus.
Not sure if this helps but here is an image file of my AVG log that shows the viruses it keeps finding all day long. My computer will not boot to safe mode. Just keeps circling back to normal xp. I'm afraid I must have more problems besides just the virus. At least my AVG is keeping the virus from spreading though they do pop up daily.
