Hi,
I'm having some serious problems with my newly installed BDIS2008. I installed yesterday and no problems, everything running fine. Then, it ran some sort of update and after that my whole pc just went terminally slow. I couldn't do anything. Had to reset the computer and when it loaded back up again, I was unable to use it as it wasn't allowing me to do anything. I could click on icons on the desktop but couldn't open anything. I made sure that every last bit of previous AV software was gone, double checked that then uninstalled BD and re-installed. Everything worked fine, until....it updated again!!! Everything grinded to a halt, again! I managed to open task manager before BD opened up and under the "performance" tab, the CPU usage was normal (around 2-7%). Please can you help?!?! Dear DelPaso,
I still recommend that you follow the steps in this topic. What was your previous antivirus or security software? Symantec's Norton products are known that when you only use the default uninstaller many files are still present that can cause conflicts when you install another antivirus. Are you using other security products in the background? First I recommend is that you perform a repair installation of BitDefender first right click on the BitDefender icon near the system clock press on exit. Go to start,(all) programs,BitDefender 2008,modify/repair/uninstall. Use the repair option. Best regards Niels |

Go to start,(all) programs,BitDefender 2008,modify/repair/uninstall. Use the repair option. I'm having the same problem with repeated hangup's after updates. It seems highly suspect that this is just related to improper uninstallation of previous anti-virus software. Instead, it is more likely that BD-2008's update mechanism is exceptionally buggy. I made sure that every last bit of previous AV software was gone, double checked that then uninstalled BD and re-installed. Everything worked fine, until....it updated again!!! Everything grinded to a halt, again! BD-2008 must be made to handle unknown situations more gracefully: hanging up the computer several times a week is simply unacceptable! Grinding a computer to a halt is great in terms of security but is is terrible in terms of productivity. Perhaps, the BD-2008 repair mechanism might be called for, but that suggests problems with BD-2008's update mechanism. Basically repair is an un-install followed by a re-install which is annoying in terms of having to redo settings. Yes, most can be restored by saving beforehand and restoring but that's a hassle (and I'm guessing it won't work completely for firewall profiles). My recommendation is to uninstall BD-2008 and install a robust secuty suite. |

Thanks Niels,
I had previously been using Norton but ran through some steps found elsewhere as to how to clean it out of the registry, etc. I will try the steps in the topic you've linked to there and will also try the repair installation and hope that works. As for your question about the other security products in the background, there's definitely nothing else running. I'll give this a go later and let you know how I get on. The reason why I told that leftovers of a previous antivirus could be the problem in this case is because he said that he just installed BitDefender and deleted his old antivirus. I don't have any hanging problems on all my home pc's where I installed BitDefender on. How do you know that it's BitDefender that cause the slowdown? Do you always keep task manager open? But you must know every computer configuration and software configuration is totally different so there could be issues no developper can let his software works without any problems on every computer system. We're talking complete system hangup, not slowdown. As this is occurring after BD updates, this seems unlikely to be problems with other software. BD must be made more robust: having it hangup the system is not security. It should at least warn the user if it runs into an unknown situation and then recommend manual intervention. Perhaps BD should consult with Microsoft to learn how to make the update process robust. The Windows live update process surely runs into much more configuration diversity without such problems. |

Del Gidday Del, As a BitDefender retailer that sells and installs ALOT of this product, I have seen this issue crop up ALOT over the past few weeks on many different hardware and software configurations. The good news for you? Here is the fix:- Start in safe mode, run msconfig, disable the Bitdefender services. Reboot Start the Bitdefender installation which will detect a 'newer' version and ask if you would like to UNinstall - do IT! Reboot Start a fresh install of Bitdefender, IMPORTANT - When it asks to download a later version of the install say NO. Reboot Run the Bitdefender updater, install all updates. Niels, I tried going through the steps you recommended and unfortunately as soon as I updated again the system just hung, same as before. Mark, tried your method and everything seems to be running ok at the moment. I had to run a different BD uninstaller as the one that comes with the product didn’t seem to get rid of everything and kept telling me I needed to uninstall the newer version. Fingers crossed it all carries on working! Thank you so much for your help. I can stop pulling my hair out now… Del |

Dear Tom O'Hara,
In my opinion signature updates can't cause the system freeze (because it are only small files and no program files need to be updated) but the product upgrade lets say from build 11.0.15 to 11.0.16 can cause a freeze. If you download the latest build you will bypass the automatic upgrade process which can fail. Or it must be a problem with a language build of BitDefender products. Because I don't have any system halts on my Dutch version. Or something must went wrong during a previous installed update. Best regards Niels |

Exactly the same situation on my Laptop. I used your 2008 trial version and had no problems at all. Then I purchased BD Internet Security 2009. I believe, after the recent updates, my computer started hanging. The hang is exceptionally annoying. IT JUST HALTS EVERYTHING. My ONLY option limits to a hard reboot. Even ctrl+alt+del wont work. I have logged in a ticket and your techs have asked me to use your removal tool and then re-install the 2009 version. Lets see how that goes. Once again, PLEASE find out what is causing this situation. This happened 3 times within an hour today. I'm on edge to toss my computer high in the air and let it land on the floor from the 5th level. Jeeez .. I lost my precious work, I'm a writer.
