When I purcahsed BitDefender Internet Security the terms and Conditions explained that I was agreeing to Automatic Subscription Renewal of the product at the end of 12 months (i.e. payment would be taken automatically). It also said that I could cancel this once I had completed purchase of the product and that instructions would be supplied.

I've looked everywhere but with no sucess. Can anyone tell me please how to cancel this automatic renewal?

This is utterly absurd. I am not going to authorize anyone to automatically charge my credit card whatever they want to. I can not in good conscious recommend this product to any one else. (IMG:http://forum.bitdefender.com/style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

Hello dobby (and anyone else who's reading this),

Please calm down! BitDefender doesn't automatically renew the license and, most importantly, it doesn't take money from you without your knowledge, nor agreement!. I don't know what was the situation with Charles65. Maybe this policy was used by a certain store from where he bought BitDefender, or maybe it was just a misunderstanding. To be clear about this, please contact LiveAssistance and ask them (I know I bought BitDefender once, and I have NEVER seen such a statement in the license agreement).

Cris.

You have probably already resolved your issue, but here is what I did. Online purchases are processed by Digital River.
BitDefender chat gave me their Customer Phone Number. It is in the US, they speak english as a 1st language, and I just called ( 1/1/2009) them and got through to a CSR in about 20 seconds. With order number or email address he was able to cancel the automatic renewal in a few seconds. Hope this helps.

Digital River Customer Support 24/7 365 days is 952-253-1234. When you call message will say not open if after hours, but just press the option for customer service and viola!

I tried several times in the past month to cancel through the above link that, Niels offered and recieved no response. Yesterday they sent me a e-mail saying that my subscription has been renewed and that my credit card would be charged $39.95. Today I sent them a e-mail saying that if they continued to ignore my request for cancelation that I would get together with the other people that they were ignoring and file a class action suit. Today I recieved a e-mail saying that my subscription has been cancelled. I'm tired of being taken advantage of and I'm not putting up with it any more.

The thing is everybody thinks that the canceling of your renewal is made through "my account". Well it isn't the case. Let me tell you how you can easily remove/cancel your renewal:

First of all when you've ordered our product digital river asked you for a password. You should remember this password as it will enable access to your orders later on.

Now if you want to cancel you subscription go to: http://www.findmyorder.com

You'll notice that you have two options for logging in; the first one is with and order number and a password (that you have set earlier) or if you don't remember the password you can use your email (the one used for ordering our product) and the last numbers on you credit card number (the one used for ordering)

Once inside your account you can easily cancel your renewal subscription.

You don't need to call in for support or write emails to support you just need to follow the terms and faqs that are available on digital river.
Hope this helps.

Florin:
The link you posted:

didn't work at all for me. :-(

I did find a "well hidden" telephone number for Digital River, 800-656-5426. They weren't all that helpful but at least I spoke to a real person.

DR sent me back to NewEgg where I bought the BDIS-2008. DR says that Newegg must stop the annual ripoff.

Hmmm, I'm now on the phone with Newegg. Guess what? They say that I must call DR back again.

A bit later:

Now I'm on hold at DR, no music on hold. I just explained my problem for the 4th time to a rather nice lady. She of course tells me that I must call Newegg. :-( :-(

I think I'll have a beer and continue this circus tomorrow.

Fungus

Don't forget the Digital River phone number, it works well. 800-656-5426.

I cancelled my subscription following that link and received a confirmation about one day later (1/17), but today I still received an email telling me that my subscription was renewed. Did this happen to anyone else? I've sent them an email but haven't heard anything from them so far.

Same exact thing happened to me. Canceled on the 13th and got a confirmation and then on the 19th I received an email saying my subscription had been renewed. Very frustrating. They make it very difficult to find the auto renew cancellation option and then when you use it it doesn't work. One might think they didn't want you to cancel for some reason. I'll be recommending this product to everyone I know. Oh wait no I meant I'll be doing my best to make sure everyone I talk to knows how unscrupulous this company is.

I too made one of the biggest mistakes of my life buying BitDefender. I bought BitDefender Internet Security 2009 a few months ago, and the dumb I am, I opted for 3 computers with 2 year subscription, without researching much about this company. I have had numerous problems installing, maintaining bitdefender. Their tech support really really sucks. I even sent them screen shots of the error messages with quite a few emails. No help. I had to uninstall BitDefender and buy SecurityShield Deluxe instead (I still have Bitdefender on one machine which seem to be getting by without too much trouble). Now I read in this forum that they auto-renew your subscription.... what the f@#$? Anyway, I was able to login to findmyorder.com and choose to submit a cancellation of auto-renew. I say "choose" because I don't know if it will work, as with other people on this forum.

I think all of the most frustrated of us should join hands and do something about this company. May be filing a class action is not such a bad idea. If anybody wants to get in touch with me on this matter, my email is babupalladium1[at]yahoo[dot]com. If they auto-renew my subscription in spite of my cancellation request, I am going to be really pi$$ed.

Babu.

i hate to be another "me too" addition to the thread but ME TOO! I'm ######. I received the notification or renewal, contacted BitDefender and was still renewed. I'm telling my credit card company to not pay.

As others have said, they don't provide a way to cancel.

Please read this http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...ost&p=48890

This is the only way to cancel renewal, it can't be done from our support lines.

I'm sorry to report that the cancellation process no longer works. The page that you give offers a choice to
cancel the auto-renewal, but when you select that, you are presented with a generic support page that
1.) Does not have a auto-renewal cancellation option
2.) If you submit a cancellation request, your submission is responded with an email saying that the email address
that you used is no longer accepting mail!

Also, based on other users messages, it's not clear that DigitalRiver will actually process auto-renewal cancellations
anyway. I assume that I will have to cancel my credit card, and not ever renew any of my BitDefender subscriptions.

Followup:

It appears that the www.findmyorder.com website does not properly handle Firefox.
Everything seems to work okay until submitting the actual cancellation page.
I was able to submit cancellation requests using Internet Explorer.
We'll have to see if these requests were actually processed.

ok I finally got through to both digitalriver and bitdefender.
they just cancelled my order.

I think they are bombarded with the same requests.
I liked bitdefender but telling me I'll get billed and autorenewed without first asking me if I want to, just made me so angry I'd rather use another AV
this is just unethical.

cheers!
