I just did upgrade on my W2k machine without removing the previous v10. Everything went ok with the install, but the shield is not working. The little activity bar never shows any activity, nor does the last file scanned section in the security center. I'm certain that the shield is not working at all, anytime. However, when I start a scan manually, it appears to be working okay. I ran "fix all issues" which appeared to reinstall everything but that did not help. I went to the live support area, but that seemed to not be working as well, so here i am. (IMG:http://forum.bitdefender.com/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) HELP!

Hello Denis

Take a look that every BitDefender service is running. To verify that go to start, run, type services.msc and take a look at the status of all services that has BitDefender in the name. It also depends what the size of the scanned files/folders were that you would see movement on the graphic. What information do you find when you click on more statistics?

Regards
Niels

If the protection isn't working, there should be a red X sign on the activity bar. But I think you should have uninstalled the old version before installing BD 2008. There's an easy way to test your real time protection - that is with the EICAR test file.

Go to this site: http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

Scroll down and click on the link that says eicar.com. If your protection is working, then the file will be detected as soon as you save it to the hard disk, and if you have HTTP scan enabled, it will stop it before you've downloaded it.

Greetings, thanks for the info to all responders. The red X never showed up in the little window, but I'm still certain that it is not scanning. When I open my email client, or start programs, it always did a bunch of scanning, and always indicated acanning in the file zone bar. Now everything opens fast, (no thrashing while it scans), no indication of any files having been scanned in the statistics section either. (I forgot how fast this maching is without any anti-virus running) I've used the BD uninstall utility, and then reinstalled, with no fix. I did it again logged in as administrator, no fix. Support seems to be overwhelmed and I'm out here with my pants down because I can't safely use this machine, so I reinstalled v10 and it is working ok. I'll try again at a later date, and I'll be sure to check that all the BD services are running.

I think that the important thing is that BD is aware that this thing can appear to be running ok but still have a problem.

Thanks again

Thanks for your feedback, I'm hoping that there'll be a fix for issues like this in the near weeks. When you decide to try again, make sure you uninstall the old version first, it's always better that way. Good luck. (IMG:http://forum.bitdefender.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I had that problem with Bitdefender Antivirus 10 but it happend just once in 2 years. Fix? Dezinstall everything and after that delete every softwin/bitdefender files that remain on hdd (check in the windows reigstry too)
After that restart (restarts are very important!) and install again.
