Before installing BitDefender you should first remove your previous antivirus solution. Most of the anti-viruses you can remove when doing this:
Go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and run the uninstaller. I’ve posted for some anti-viruses uninstallers that are offered by their vendors:

Avast: Avast
AVG: AVG or using this tool and here the 64 bit version.
Norton: Norton
Mcafee: Mcafee
Kaspersky: Kaspersky
Panda: Panda
Trend Micro:Trend Micro
Norman: Norman

Even when you use the uninstaller there will still be leftovers. To solve that problem I suggest that you download the following software:

CCcleaner:
CC Cleaner
(Do not forget to uncheck yahoo toolbar during installation)
Start CCleaner by double clicking on the shortcut, navigate to the clean function (cleaner) and run cleaner. It can take a while before it finishes. After that, go to Issues, scan for issues and, when the scan is finished, select Fix selected issues. Confirm the message for making a backup. To fix everything press on Fix every issue.

Regcleaner: Regcleaner
Start RegCleaner, when you are in the main menu check (select) every reference from your previous vendor (e.g : Panda Software or Panda Antivirus+Antispam,…) and press on Remove selected. Do that also for start up list.

Reboot your PC afterwards.
