We have a couple of client machines that seem to be having Bitdefender problems. The machines were running very sluggishly. When we went to examine the running processes it was “epcsrv.exe” (Endpoint Client by Bitdefender) that was hogging all the CPU cycles. We have tried rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling the Bitdefender client, with no improvement. We have temporarily uninstalled Bitdefender and reinstalled MSSE on those systems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bitadel |

Hello Bitadel!
Thank you for your post. Usually this behavior is caused by a conflict with another security solution installed on the same system or if Bitdefender's On-Access scanning is detecting a large number of infected files and tries to clean them. I recommend you to check if on the affected stations there are other security solutions installed and also run a Full System Scan to see if there are any infected files. Please try to follow the above steps on one station and let us know if the issue persists afterwards. Looking forward to your reply, Catalin |

Bitadel,
I too have recently begun experiencing this issue on a few of my machines. I started tracking it and noticing a trend occurring with the update schedule or daily/full scan schedule. I have setup a local update server and also staggered many of my scan times. Now it appears that most of my machines have a tendancy to have CPU usage when a full system scan happens. Device scanning and network drives has been disabled, along with exclusions for many of the noted Microsoft exclusions for Windows OS, such as WSUS. I don't go to a monthly full scan, but am at a loss for my next steps. Is there are setting to help reduce the load of CPU resources that are being consumed. I saw that there is an option for the level of scanning that is performed, but am hesitant to put that too low. |

Hi Mark B,
Thank you for the post. We would need a few more details regarding this issue. Which is the average load on the CPU for an affected machine while the Bitdefender product is running? Also can you tell me which is the hardware configuration of the workstations that reproduce this behavior? Looking forward to hearing from you! Alex |

Alex Typical configuration is: OS: Windows 7 64-bit RAM: 2GB Typical CPU for those machines, some vary based on work performed. During the day the machines average about 4% CPU usage, when an update is being downloaded (about every 4 hours) it jumps up to around 10%. When a full system scan is scheduled to run the machine suddenly maxes out the CPU at 100% usage. The machines are scheduled to run the full scans in the off hours at around 4 am CST. Please let me know if you would like anything else. Mark This post has been edited by Mark B: Mar 7 2013, 03:46 PM |
