Dear ShearnY,

Please type services.msc into the windows search text field press enter. See if the BitDefender Desktop Update Service is still running. Double click on it and set startup type on automatic press on apply and ok.
Is the box checked before realtime protection is disabled? If not check it. Did you recently used the game mode?

Best regards
Niels

i typed that into windows and it did not find it. above the update tick box it says bit defender update service is unavailble. i unticked realtime protection but it still would not let me tick the box. and yes i have used game mode before. but it never updated anyways before i enabled game mode.

Dear ShearnY,

Try this press the windowsbutton together with r retype services.msc press enter. Normally when you enter that command you will get an overview of all installed services on your computer. This command must work in vista. Even when you don't are logged-in with an administrator account.

Best regards

Dear ShearnY,

Something must have gone wrong during the installation process because that service need to be there so that the update feature can work. I recommend that uninstall BitDefender by using this tool. First right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock click on exit. Run the uninstall tool. Reboot your pc afterwards. Do you have other security programs running in realtime mode? If so which and I recommend that you disable or exit them before you install BitDefender again.

Best regards

Dear ShearnY,

Did you downloaded the 64 bit version? I suppose so. Please try this press the windowsbutton together with r type devmgmt.msc press enter. Go to the view (display) menu click on show hidden devices, now expand show/display non plug and play compatible drivers see if an entry called bdftdif is present if so double click on it. It should be enabled go to the driver tab and see if the status is started (running) and startup type is system. Go to start, make connections,show/display all connections, now right click on the icon of your network card click on properties, uncheck BitDefender Firewall NDSIS Filter Driver press on ok to confirm.

Best regards
Niels
