I have been trying out bitdefender for the past two weeks. I had to reinstall the product yesterday updated the software rebooted and have been updating it since. I set up the firewall(paranoid mode) antivirus etc to the way i want bitdefender to perform.

My internet connection failed for some reason and i had to install new drivers for wireless network. Checked bit defender and all was well. Firewall(on) antivirus(on) etc this was all ok around 1am this morning. I have been surfing and working online etc and was about to turn off the machine but i thought i would have a look at Events icon - all seemed fine then i went into firewall to check if there was any port scans and then looked at my logs OH MY GOD the firewall had not recorded anything from around 1am to 9am (im still online)! and was switched off there was NO WARNING- services were all green and no issues.

Why? I have used many firewalls in my time and NONE OF THEM have ever switched off without warning! this product to my mine is a security risk in itself! GOD only knows who has had access to my computer.

I do not have any other security products installed, i am running win xp(sp3) and loved the product and interface until today. NOT HAPPY

Hi R_B. There must be a reason on why it switched off with no warning. Please post the report here to if possible. Would be interesting to look at it.

Same thing happened to me. And I also realized that it was waiting for a restart after an update. After restart the problem is solved.

But it should not be off with no warning.

I also have the same problem on WindowsXP with BTS2012. However on Windows Vista the firewall runs normally.
I find my firewall oftenly disabled lately, and although i password-protect the settings, when i re-enable it(or disable it again), it does not ask for a password.
There should have been a notice at least from Windows Security Center or from BTS that the firewall is disabled.
Waiting for assistance, thanks!

Hello (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For the current case, let do something.

I have here a special patch that will reinstall the firewall components and drivers for Bitdefender 2012.

Download and save following file to your desktop.

http://www.mediafire.com/?tmyqwm68j8id5nd

Do not run it!

Now, please reboot in Safe Mode.

[How to restart in SAFE MODE With Networking]
- Restart the computer;
- Press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu;
- Select "SAFE MODE With Networking"

If you have Windows Vista or 7, right click on the patch and choose Run as administrator. If not, just double click on it.

Wait for the process to finish and reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Let me know if eve thing is OK now.

Take care.

OK, i did everything as described above, but the firewall is still down.
When i ran the file you sent, a command line window appeared for a second. I ran it again from cmd and it did not appear to do anything, just confirming that BTS2012 is installed on my system.

Hi (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

In order to be able to properly identify the causes for the reported situation and find a solution we will need to investigate a bit deeper.

Please follow the steps below and send us the result:

a ) Go to this page
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx and download the autoruns file.
b ) Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;
c ) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;
d ) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;
e ) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then send me a PM with it.

If the file is too big to attach it, upload it on

http://www.sendspace.com

or

http://www.mediafire.com

and send me a PM with the download link.

We will analyze the information you sent and then reply with a possible solution in the shortest time.

Have a nice day.

OK, this one worked fine!
However, i don't really like the fact that i had to uninstall and reinstall the application. That does not prove that the problem will not appear again.
Thank you anyway!

Hello (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Welcome back.

I think you had that malware in PC before the installation of you product and during the install, some components were corrupted.

That's why the firewall wasn't functioning properly. After the product was installed, the malware was removed by our engines, but the damage remained.

Now, with the reinstallation, everything will function properly.

Since the actual case was resolve, I declare this topic closed.

Have a great weekend.
